I loved my Mission based cinema system but it had to go when the little one came along. Well, not so much little ones, maybe significant other didn't want them in the front room lol. Not had the pleasure myself but I have to keep certain things out of reach for when the lodger's grandchildren come 'round. They're not bad as kids go these days though. When the boy was small he had a fascination for the middle of my speaker cones. They were protected by wire mesh, the cats having ruined the grill cloth years before. The lad had tiny fingers however. I caught him trying to poke his finger into the domed part of the mid range cones on more than one occasion. You could see the mischievous glint in his eye when he was about to try it. Fortunately no damage was ever caused but it was so funny. You don’t really need to spend $1k for soundbar... There are soundbars with sub for less than $200. But if you can, spend more. Lots of $$$ in soundbar goes into the form factor and home theatre features such that normal speakers can sound as good for half the price. I find myself needing around $1k to get acceptable sound from TV soundbars, and many brands don’t even manage to reproduce proper sound even at higher prices (Granted, these brands, which shall not be named, also do not manufacture either a) AVRs, b) HT speakers, c) literally any proper audio product of any form, hence me concluding that their target customers are the kum gongs) Cheap soundbar: wisepick.org/best-soundbar-under-500 At cheap prices really, soundbars don’t give much improvement over TV speakers (unless you’re using those new super slim LCD/LED TVs which have horribad speakers - maybe the cause of cheap soundbars rising?) except mainly for the fact that it has a subwoofer. I picked up the Samsung soundbar and separate subwoofer and it’s pretty good and a a reasonable price. Replacing speakers with a sound bar is not the same as adding a sound bar to a TV. Almost any sound bar will be an improvement over internal TV speakers, but you're well into specialist areas if you want to replace separate speakers with an equivalent quality sound bar. In my experience cheap subs make sound worse rather than better, and one is better served by concentrating on the main thing: the unit that creates most voice and music.
