I'll see your LED fret markers and I'll raise you....

Fair enough.

It's a short video clip demonstrating a feature of a bass where the whole instrument is illuminated rather than just fret marker LEDs. A button on the body allows you to select difference colours and to choose between fully illuminated and the light chasing around the instrument.
Here's a few screenshots I've taken from the video to hopefully give some idea:

The bass without lights-

And a few examples with-

Too much. The flaw will be the power consumption of those LEDs and switching circuit. That thing will spend more time on charge than on action.

It's done it's job though - gone viral and got the luthier a load of followers so he can get people seeing his other work.

I just thought it was an interesting and quite clever gadget. I wouldn't actual want to use that on stage personally (my main gigging bass is a sunburst precision though so I guess I'm not really the target market) but it's a clever bit of tech that, as you say, will no doubt get the builder some attention for his more practical offerings.

I guess in the right band it'd be ok.

It's a bit like those pointless LEDs on Mark King's basses, I can see the point along the side of the fretboard, but not on the front, that's just for the audience, like this.

And what is wrong with giving the audience something interesting to look at?
