The way I would fault-find this without intrusive work is to take an LED with a series current-limiting resistor, and use that to check for a 9v potential difference between the jack > preamp wires. Pins 1-3 are +9v, 0v and -9v respectively, so checks of pins 1+2 and then 2+3 are useful.

(this is a lie since I'd use a DMM, but it's another way to do this....)

Electronics are my weak point (a bit like these basses 😂) so I'm going to pass it on as in time poor at the minute...

Also, I have a later SB-700 arriving shortly to bridge the gap...

I will offer your details up to Steve, I had thought it could be something as simple as the switch or socket.

It lives!!!

Hohoho.

For now it will wear the 1985 Laser series pickup. When I've got some spare funds, I'll be buying one of the reissue pickups.

According to the luthier, it sounds fantastic!

Has had all the pots cleaned through (saves me a job) and all in all £25.

Cannot grumble at all!

Exciting stuff.

Looks great, even in its interim mode. Congrats on a happy ending (middle?) to your Ariatastic saga. I'm right in thinking you sourced a replacement 700 too, aren't I?

Yeah an 81...

The bass was gigged last night, sounded great.
