Does it count if I use the original vocals (with their permission of course), but everything else by me or is that too much like a remix rather than a cover?

Here's my version...

& the original...

I obviously don't make the rules but that should be ok in my book. What I love about the composition challenge is that it's about hearing some very different interpretations of the picture. I can't see why interpreting what is classed as a cover is much different to the philosophy behind that.

If I've got to sing, then it's either gonna be an instrumental or a cover of Sex Machine!

If you have permission, it's all good! :)

Excellent! :D

There was a couple that I've done, but I really like my bass playing in this track. The mix could be better though, so I might play about with it if I get time.

Started out with an idea of doing a cover of Toxic in 7/8 time and this is where I ended up.
https://soundcloud.com/organicpulseensemble/toxic

A multitude of percussion tracks
Drumkit (snare, ride, hihat, kick, each recorded seperately as I record in my apartment, i.e. no space for a mounted kit)
Horns (two alto saxes, one flute and one baritone sax)
Fretless bass
Keyboard drone from my trusty old casio
Vocals, I wanted it to sound like the ensemble was chanting the vocals which is a bit tricky when youre the only one in your ensemble. I sang the lyrics in three different voices and I managed to convince my better half to record a track aswell... 'tis what it is :)

The above is a cover of Oceanside by Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians from the 1991 album Perspex Island, on Go!Discs
Guitar and drums live, bass and vocals added soon after.
Performed by Charms Against the Evil Eye.
Matt Sewell - guitar, vocals
Rick J Nash - drums
MoonBassAlpha - bass, backing vocals, recording.

We tend to play this once a year, on our annual trip to Paignton, the Oxford freaks seaside trip...

*edit did a slightly dryer mix as demanded by the other two. Outvoted :(

I've done a take on a 42 year old classic...

Edit: just discovered that a private soundcloud track is actually completely private! So here's Dropbox...
Just reposting this as for some weird reason the Dropbox link doesn't appear on my mobile browser in the original post.

EDIT: nor in this post! Is anyone else seeing Len's Dropbox link??

Here's the url... Should perhaps maybe work!

edit: just comes out as an embedded player!
Another edit - here's the url without the http bit:

Mine feels like a good idea badly executed this month. It sounded a lot better in my head and I wanted so much more from it percussion-wise but the time ran out and I can't do any more before the deadline so here it is.

>>> UPDATE <<<

To simplify matters when it comes to listening and voting... I'm going to set up a temporary account on SoundCloud and host a 'playlist' featuring all of the entries in one handy place (including those submitted via Dropbox - see PMs sent to those of you that this concerns).

This will mean that everyone has access to all of the songs using mobile and tablet devices, as well as desktops, which will make the whole thing far more convenient for anyone sat on the sofa full of mince pies and sherry.

I'll then delete the temporary account once the voting has ended.

That is all. As you were.

And I'm in... my first here in a while! Feels like pulling on a pair of comfy old slippers :)

Cover version of 'I Love You All', written by Stephen Rednecks for the film, Frank. Vocals, bass and guitars by yours truly. Drums written in Reason. Produced and mixed in Reason/Ableton.

https://soundcloud.c.../i-love-you-all

PS: CAUTION CONTAINS SWEARING! (one "F-bomb" to be precise). Thought you should now in case you're planning on making the listening/voting a family event.

Submission deadline is midnight on Christmas Eve! As if Santa didn't have enough to do that night already... :santa:

Hope this is permissible.

This clip actually contains a few songs but I don't have any way to edit it down to just the one song as it's a facebook live video taken by the club owner where my band was playing last month (please also forgive the camera phone quality recording).
My submission though, if it is okay, is our version of Boys of Summer which starts at 7:19.

If it's not okay in this format though I'll happily withdraw.

No worries and welcome aboard.

It might be a faff for some folks to skip ahead as instructed, but that's no big deal. Count yourself in. And nice to see a live video!
