These are seriously good fun. Used with headphones for quiet practice or with in ear monitors at gigs. It allows you to feel the bass, but it's indistinguishable from actually hearing it. Makes you feel that you've got a super stack behind you and blasting sound out at a festival. Certainly helps keep timing in check, and saves your ears by allowing you to play at lower ear volumes.

I'm really tempted but can't find out much about how to power it. I could run it from my practice combo apparently but I'd rather use it with my 'silent' setup (Roland VB99)

I have a 1u digital power amp which puts 400w a side into 4ohms

It seems that to all intents and purposes it acts (as far as the amp is concerned) like an 8ohm speaker cab?

Yes exactly Ped...so il will take about 250watts out of your 400W/4ohm out.
