The cable is in fact anything but 'Real Tone'... it's pretty crappy and intended for use with the Rocksmith video game, which incidentally is a lot of fun. But it enabled me to noodle this from my sofa after putting the kids to bed and finishing some paperwork. So that's cool. Good call Rob. Makes me feel a bit 'naked' just posting up an isolated bass track... but it's also a very useful exercise. I get to hear all of the things I need to improve, laid bare. I also get to hear other people's nuances in a similarly stark light, which gives me ideas for experimenting with different tones and 'voices' by adjusting my own playing. All good. They also make for enjoyable listening! I know we always tend to knock the bass as "not being a solo instrument", but it [i]can[/i] hold attention under the right circumstances.
