Everything original: nitro finish in custom colour, hardware (including ashtrays), frets, electronics, cloth wiring, dated pots and pickup, jack, pickguard, thumbrest etc, and hardshell case.

Electronics: In good working order and, other than some touched-up solder, all original. (I had Martin Petersen re-solder the ground wire at the Gallery in Camden, as it had come loose.)

Hardware: Also all original. The truss rod operates correctly with no issues. Ditto for the bridge and tuners (though if you're new to early/mid 60s Fenders, you'll find the tuners seem to operate in reverse..!)

Playability: The bass is well set-up, the neck is straight, there is plenty of travel available on the bridge saddles/truss rod nut allowing for any reasonable playing action/neck relief, and as mentioned above, everything adjusts well.

Sound: Please refer to the video linked here: https://vimeo.com/153655102 for sound samples. The bass is currently strung with TI Flats. I've had rounds on it in the past, and in that configuration it grinds, snarls, and...sounds like a Precision Bass should.

Condition: It has been played and played and loved and played. Please examine these detailed pictures: http://andybaxterbas...ails.php?id=469 for close-ups, including disassembly photos and gut-shots. (I bought this bass from Andy a number of years ago. I hope he doesn't mind me linking to the archived sale on his site...) The finish - wear and all - is quite beautiful IMO. As you can see from the pictures and video, the Lake Placid Blue colour "flip-flops" a little depending on the light. The nitro clear coat has yellowed over time; from one angle it appears teal; from another it is deep blue etc. The neck has that warm, broken-in feel that comes from nitro wearing down to the bare wood. It just feels like home.

Price/Trades: £4,995. As far as trades go, I'm trying to free up some funds for a house renovation, so most trade offers are unlikely I'm afraid. The only thing I'd see replacing this with is quite specific, so if on the off-chance you have a Fodera Monarch 4-string you'd like to trade, please by all means get in touch. Otherwise, a straight sale would be preferable.

Payment: Cash or Bank Transfer please.

Delivery/Collection: I'm happy to either ship or hand-deliver this bass, depending on what's cheaper for you: the shipping costs or a contribution to my petrol. However, with an instrument like this, I'd definitely recommend checking it out in person, plugging it in, and letting it speak to you. The bass is presently in the North, but I am in London very regularly, so if you are interested, PM me and I'm sure we can figure something out!

Odds & Sods:

Weight: 8.6lbs

Nut width: 1 3/4" ("C-width")

Fingerboard radius: 7 1/4"

Full and generous neck profile; not massive, but enough on the shoulders to make each note feel that it has "weight"

Fret size: wide and low. Very little fret wear; plenty to work with should they need re-crowning further down the line

String spacing: 19mm (but somewhat adjustable due to the threaded saddles)

34" scale length

ES marking under the pickguard: stands for "Entered Special" apparently. Evidently this bass was a special order, made for a trade-show perhaps, or a custom order from the factory

Separate metal shield under the pickguard

Original Hard Case included
If there's anything I've missed, or a specific picture that would help, please post below, PM me, or shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll be happy to get back to you.

Best wishes, and many thanks for checking out the ad!

The correct way.....I fit reverse wind tuners to all my basses....the 'other way' is just totally illogical.

I want to buy this but if another high value guitar enters my house again my wife will kick me square in the nuts.

:-@ Haha! Well..that's as compelling a reason I can think of to steer clear; far be it for me to jeopardise your marital stability (or, indeed, your testicular quietude) but cheers for the comment!
