Very sad to hear about Lemmy’s passing ...
I'll always have fond memories of him, as Motörhead were the very first band that I engineered for... one of their earliest gigs........
There's a film on Motorhead, long pre "Lemmy" where he has a sound guy who's sole job is to have the bass volume teetering on the edge of feedback and maintaining max volume. There was footage of Lemmy staring daggers and shouting "up!".
Apparently quite a few got sacked before they found a guy who could do it. Can't remember his name, but he was one of the long standing crew.

I still can't get Motorhead, didn't really like his attitude towards women
Really, what attitude would that be? In all the interviews I've read and seen women speak of him as a perfect gent. There's a nice one in the last film, a female bass player is talking about Lem. Her name escapes me, but maybe I can locate it on the net.

You know, I`ve listened to a lot on the radio today about Lemmy, all from fans, all calling in with their own personal tales of how they`ve met him etc, and the thing that has really come across is what a nice, down to earth guy he was. Sure he may have lived rock n roll, but it obviously didn`t stop him from being a thoroughly decent fella. And having read books by celebs as well, they`ve only ever had the same to say.

Amen. I went to the Motörhead 15th anniversary show for the fanclub in 1989. Lemmy was at the bar afterwards, flanked by a pair of young ladies. He could have cheerfully ignored a scrawny twerp in a Batman T-shirt and afro (I could never grow proper metal hair) but he took the interruption gracefully, said thanks for coming and shook my hand with a smile. He was the reason I took up bass, and why my first bass was an Arbiter faker. RIP.

Heard the news the other day and whilst i was saddened by the news it occurred to me that I hadn't really listened to that much of Lemmy's playing or Motorhead.
Listened to some Motorhead and was struck by how surprisingly inventive some of his parts are are and how much harder they are to play than I would have thought, listening to the track The Ace of Spades in particular there are a lot of bass chords played as well as the awesome signature bass riff.
I have to say now that Lemmy is very underrated as a bass player, definately.

Having just watched numerous documentarys and music i really wish things had worked out in hawkwind, they are deffo his most interesting lines.I still can't get Motorhead, didn't really like his attitude towards women and thought he was very arrogant in the White line fever book, should really read a Dave brock biog if there is one.,I have taken a lot of speed over the years and it definitely did not leave my willy in any state to sleep with a thousand women,I'm sure he was fibbing about how many he slept with.no denying he was one of the people who made me want to be a musician and I really admired his honesty about things like war, drugs, music etc. it feels a bit like when Freddie Mercury died tbh not a huge fan but loved them being in my dads record collection.RIP Lem.

A tribute from Keith Emerson. I had no idea of the origin of the name 'Lemmy' - nothing to do with bank notes apparently.
