NOW SOLD - deposit paid

Can't tell you how long and hard I've thought about this one, the moment has grabbed me so here it is....
I will likely regret this....

For sale:

MESA WALK ABOUT SCOUT 300w 15" combo (4ohm) 28kg

And

MESA WALK ABOUT SCOUT 15" extension Cab (4ohm) 19kg

The condition of these is as new with only one very small mark on the tolex bottom from of combo.
The ext cabinet is literally like brand new, I have never had need to use it.
The combo has seen very little use, mostly the house and the studio.

The sound from this rig is insane. I don't say that lightly. The combo on its own is mega loud and can cover pretty much any bass response required. The parametric eq will help you to dial out the unwanted noises the worst room can throw at you. Fat and warm is just gorgeous sounding but the slap sound is epic too. What ever your need, this amp will deliver it.

Both 4 ohm, running perfectly fine at 2ohm together. Both 15" cabs are just solid sounding, fully adjustable horns and both to with the scout down firing speaker as well.

These are like new, they will do what ever you want, you can't use the handy split down to cover any gigging requirement taking either just the combo or both.... And of course the walkabout design allows you to,quickly remove the head from the combo, making versitility second to none. They are not at all heavy with the combo weighing 28kg and the ext cab weighing only 19kg. Single hand lift easy.

Both come with covers, the combo has the more heavy duty padded cover with pocket for cables etc in....

Collection from Runcorn.

I will regret this, I know but I'm looking to down size as I'm mostly doing studio stuff these days now....

EDIT: Would trade for walk about scout 12"

"Mesa's WalkAbout Scout blends timeless, bottomy tone with contemporary innovations that save weight. Though it's no bigger than some practice amps, it's a serious piece of gear that's capable of satisfying the discerning professional. If size matters to you, do yourself a favor and take the Scout for a walk."
Jonathan Herrera - Bass Player Magazine

Note, these are both the 4ohm big boys not the half pint 8ohm versions.... :) a serious bit of kit.

There's been a long standing discussion about the 12" version being preferable to the 15". I've owned both and whilst slightly different, I think 'better' is not a word that comes into the discussion, it's more of a horses-for-courses issue really. I would certainly think very carefully before you traded one for the other, because whatever the reason for letting the 15" go, that reason would almost certainly still apply to the 12", unless it's a non-musical thing such as the former won't fit into your car boot but the latter will :)
[/quote] briefly what are the horses and courses?

Beedster, your bang on, its a size issue.... Nothing more. To most people it wouldnt be an issue as its small enough and not too heavy, you can carry it with one hand... But i struggle with arthritis and need every advantage i can get.
My initial thought was that i deffo dont use this rig to its potential, that in itself is a crime ! Secondly, i have Never used the cab, i dont think i would need to..... I did initially think id sell and go for something lightweight likethe tc rh 750 combo but i just know it as good as it is it wouldnt be a patch on this mesa gear.....if be setting myself up for disapointment with most anything else.
So, conclusion drew, get the mesa 12 scout.... Put the rest of the cash with the bass sale ive got on the go and so on so on.... I do like the sound of 12's but the 15's are epic for depth warmth and punchy fullness ...

I walk with crutches most of the time now mso size weight is an issue.......

Cant stress how good these things are..... Dont think anything comes close..... Edited by Wonky2

Can't believe this is hanging on in here. Probably the best small rig in the world IMHO.
I'm still trying mate, it's on my timeline and I've asked the universe nicely.
Have a lovely bump on me.

I have both a 12" and a 15", both 4 ohm and a Scout amp.
Firstly, I wouldn't regard the 15" with amp attached as an 'exceptionally heavy' combo,
at just under 30kg, with the amp included.
it is a bit unwieldy with the cab top strap, the 12" is much more handy to tote.
I have added a pair of spring handles on the sides of both, which makes cab carrying easier,
and for most, a one handed lift.
I have separated the amp from the combo and carry it in a shoulder bag.
2 reasons: 1. its an easier carry
2. its a bit exposed to spills etc and not so easy to see and adjust in its mounted position.

As far as the 12" vs. 15" issues.
The 12", as you'd expect is a bit 'tighter' both in tone and spread, a touch too tight in spread,
it needs to be positioned strategically to maximise speaker to ear transmission - to hear it enough! B)

The 15" has a 'bigger' tone - neither flappy, nor boomy but more beefy and 'there'.
and together? Well, 'immense' was the word used by a fellow bassist to describe the 'stack'.

The comparison between the Walkabout 15" cab and a BF Super Compact Alex let me try was interesting.
The BF was lighter, better designed ergonomically, a better spread of sound and a bit louder,
but a different 'oomph' to it.

Any way, what are you lot waiting for?
WALKABOUT FOR SALE!
what's not to like?

Thanks guys..... I'm not entirely sure some of these opinions are to be taken as general view on the gear ?

The way we're talking here you'd think it was excessively heavy, and it is by no means the case. It's not going to compare with any of today's lightweight gear but they will in turn no way compete with this rig in regards to depth of sound or tonal capability. Think of these lightweights as a pint of lemonade, the Mesa as a pint of Guinness.

It's not difficult to manoeuvre either, a genuine one handed lift in and out of car.
The only reason I wish to move to the 12 is it MAY be a little easier to handle for a disabled person.... Bet that in mind when you think would the 15 be too big or heavy? Nope, I've been using it without too much problem... Easy lift in out the car and then bearing in mind my hips are shot and my back is completely ruined) I usual use my little fold up truck to gently wheel it in wherever I'm going... Easy.... Just to put it into context, At 28kg it's just heavier than a single bag of sand or gravel from B and Q (25kg) ....

My gigging days are over, I simply want to get down to one combo, one bass.... Just to keep my hand in studio wise and maybe the odd gig as requested.... If I was a regular live player there is not a chance on earth I would want any other rig than this. It's not huge, it's not mega heavy, it delivers a knock out sound, is louder than you would ever need , has a fantastic di for studio and stage, paramedic eq to dial out the boom of ANY room.... And the condition is like new.
One of the best regarded amps on the market for a long time.

What more could you want :)
If it doesn't sell and i will quite happily keep it as it just isn't that much of an issue, I just thought I'd take a leap and down size by all of 3"! I'll take any advantage I can get..... But to anyone else, it's fine....I've had trace Elliot and ampeg gear which makes this feel like an empty card board box ! Hahaha
Ber in mind also, if it was that much of an issue, I would not be suggesting I'd swap it for the 12" which is only a couple of inches and kg smaller/ lighter I'd be running out to buy one of these ultra light cabs wouldn't I? .?
I did contemplate selling it to buy a TC elec rs212 and a rs450 but there is not chance the sound could EVER compete. I'll be sticking with Mesa no question.

It's nearly crimbo, treat yourself !

I can say quite definitely that it's not a heavy combo, by any means - unless you talk about the sound. I love mine and reckon it's the best combo money can buy. The fact that the head is also easily removed makes it even more versatile.

Supreme quality, infinite variety of sound and truckloads of power.

Cheers Steve.

I've just spent the last ten minutes look on gak web site at all the bass combos on offer....

Just to give this further context....

The Mesa walk about 15 combo is 28kgs

By comparison :
The TC Electronic rs450 2x10 combo is 26kg
Phil Jones bass suitcase is 23kg
Bergantino nv115 is 24kg
The Ashdown abm c115 evo 3 "lightweight combo" 26.6kg
Most Trace Elliot gear is far far heavier with some of their heads weighing almost this much !!!!

The Mesa walkabout 15 ext cab is only 19kg's.
By comparison:
TC Electronics rs210 cab 19kg
Vanderkley 115mn6 cab is 23kg
Eden ex115 cab 18.7kg (Mesa cab is 19kg)

You get my picture? In comparison they stack up quite well and are not quite the beast some might suggest.
Even so, the sound from them makes up any difference.

Granted, ultra Light weight gear does come in anywhere from 5-10 kg less than the scout 15 combo .....but frankly, I've had heavier turds.

This is not a d class amp, it will not compare with something the size of a cigar box on weight, but it sure make up for it in boogie :)

Any way, I can always throw in a pack of weetabix ?
Nuff said ?
