Hello

My name is Steve and I'm just starting out on my bass journey.
I'm based in Teesside.

I have just acquired my first bass - after reading/watching the reviews I settled on a Stagg EDB 3/4-RDL electric double bass.
Having little room at home, and wanting to easily move instruments to sessions, I settled on the Stagg rather than an acoustic bass.
And having an electric bass I can practice silently!!

I've been playing music for around 40 years. My main instrument is English concertina - I also play melodeon, and a few other instruments, and dabble with the Swedish zither. My main musical interests are English, Nordic and European folk music. I also sing English and Nordic folk songs. Although the harmonies and rhythms are complex and interesting in Nordic folk music, I feel that I'd like to add some depth to the music sometimes - this is where bass comes in. I don't anticipate bass being my main instrument, but it'd be nice to have the option when jamming and playing for dance.

I'm inspired by the http://www.discoverdoublebass.com/ website - there is a lot of invaluable material there.
I also take the point that I should get a teacher - especially in view of minimising bad habits from the outset, and setting up my bass.
Any teachers in Teesside area willing to offer a newbie a few initial lessons?

Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Looking forward to getting started on bass - I'm getting loads of ideas I want to try out - Swedish polska maybe a challenge.

Anyone ever heard of Jan Johansson and his bassist Georg Riedel?

How can I find out about BC events 'up North'?
