Bolt-on Hondo II, perhaps a bit pricey at £300. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/hondo-70s-lawsuit-ba...=item43a3dbb4d5

Particularly since the electrics aren't working.
I cant say i like the Tuxedo colours though with a non painted headstock, just my opinion but i think it looks odd.

Ashley
I've seen this finish before - it's only the front that's white, the rest of the body's natural. Odd idea and it would look better if the headstock face was matched too.

There are some Rickenfakers in odd colours knocking about - the Electra Corsair often appears with a dark-stained or black painted back & sides, natural front, plus a maple fingerboard with black inlays. Corsairs were made at different times by Matsumoku, Kasuga & Fujigen - I have seen bolt Kasuga & Fujigen versions with the same strange finishes. I think my favourite weirdo finish might be the radioactive green & yellow "SnotGlo" Matsumoku bolt-necks. I want one of those.

I think Warmoth call that 'dragonburst', on curly maple, it does look kind of like underneath a reptile.

Rule No. 1 when you're interested in a shonky, apt-to-get-pulled Rickenfaker listing: message the seller so you have a record of their username, if nothing else.

I wouldn't worry though, it's highly likely to be back. :)

And now it's with me :)
Anybody point me in the direction of articles on how to adjust twin truss rods on a BOLT ON neck copy? The rods look like they have been painted over.
The bass itself is, erm, more mojo'd than the photo's, lot of little chips and a couple of big chips, scratches etc.
Virtually all the chrome parts are pitted, but I will inquire about that at a later date. Next years gig money will perhaps go to black Hipshot bridge, pick up surround and black tuners (wonder who gave me that idea :) ) .
The main thing is to get the action playable as you could currently drive a Transit under the strings.

One redeeming feature is ............... it sounds bloody fantastic!!! so I am very keen to get it playable.
Hope someone can point me, cheers guys,
Karl.
Now here's something you don't see every day - a Greco.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage87-GRECO-RB-m...=item4155872e64
It's in Japan, and they're not that rare there - this one's 1987 and these were still in Greco catalogues in the mid 90s. This is a Fujigen bass, identical to the late 70s revision of the Ibanez 2388B/DX, apart from the binding, which is an unusual 3-ply on this. The 70s Fujigen copies had checked binding & it looks like they substituted 3-ply on later ones.

For £600 (excuding postage from Japan & customs thievery) this is a bit of a mess - you'd have to really want the name* & binding. It's grimy, corroded, neglected-looking, has missing screws & there's even a magnet missing from the neck pickup.

Twickerman - loads of the early 70s copies have checked binding and toasters, most of them have stereo outs & the bridge pup circuits feature the bass cut cap - so wiring a push-pot as a vintage tone selector would be easy. The only thing I think they never copied was the horsie - but considering most players seem to prefer to bin the pup cover, that's probably no bad thing!

J.

*EDIT - just noticed, it hasn't even got a nameplate. No reason to assume it was ever a Greco, then. :)

Thanks A.T.
Shimmed the neck yesterday and the action is massively improved.
Next issue is to strip the tuners, see if I can tighten them and keep the bloody thing in tune.
Serial number is B762972 which I am guessing is 1976.
I must say, it seems really well made even though it shows signs of a tough life.
Oh, and , what a sound!!!!!!!, especially through a 700watt rig. :)

All the best,
Karl.

Don't know if this is the right place, but,

Mechanically I would like to replace tuners as 2 are very slightly bent.
Cosmetically I need to source a black scratchplate and even more difficult a black TRC with "Rickenfaker" on it.
Will probably need to source a bridge pick up surround, as when I cleaned it, quite a bit of chrome came off.
I am staggered by how well made this thing is.
I am just hoping the photo's will add a tiny bit to our knowledge of Rickenfakers.
Cheers,
Karl.

Edited for spelling again!
