I'm going to stand my ground with Crazy Horses. Along with Run Run Run by Jo Jo Gunne is was as heavy as anything in the charts that year - and yes, I suppose you could argue that it was rendered null and void by Little Jimmy Osmond's effort that year, but, yeah, I'm standing by Crazy Horses!!

I couldn't agree more. Crazy Horses is a great song. I'm pretty sure Alex Harvey used to a version of it live, but then he used to do a version of Goodnight Irene as well; a true rock n' roll eccentric.

When I was in a NWOBHM, (remember that?), band in the late 70's we used to do an Osmond's song called 'Life Is Hard Enough Without Goodbyes'. We dropped it because we got so much stick for it. I can't really remember that much about the song but it must have been pretty rocky for us to do it.

I listen to and feel so much music of all kinds. Here are three that come to mind today:

This last one was new to me in 2012 and I still shake at the beauty of this.

Hard to remember that far back, but Focus's 'Hocus Pocus' must be on the list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGaVUApDVuY
Not a favourite now.

More recently, The Mutton Birds' 'White Valiant', which remains one of the creepiest songs I've ever heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqFoRIj0Wzc

And this... so fragile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_JIHVicWsI

and this, which will be played at my funeral:

Great thread... Enjoyed everyone's choices...

I'll go with three: first and old one with the much missed Chris Squire being supremely musical as ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-rdL2KkvzY

Godlike tune. Great melodies.

In terms of harmony, this fried my head - the great Jimmy Johnson on bass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2HlyupMt8A

And here's a wild card for anyone looking for something melodic but different: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU9CvQztcrI

There is so many tracks that have been posted that fit the OP's post that have made me change my mind. This might be due to a bad memory but then again I get the " I loved that track but forgot about it."

I really wish we had a like button so I could like others choices. It would give interesting stats.

I voted against against the like button when we had the choice but maybe it would be time to review it. I know it would give the mods a nightmare though.

What do you think?

Led Zeppelin, Immigrant Song. First LZ song I heard, bought second hand on that old black plastic format from a second hand record shop in Edinburgh called Vynil Villains when I was about 13. Used to get a bus and a train to get there with a school friend when we were at school. Bought it because I had heard of some band called Led Zeppelin and this had the best album cover and got home, stuck it on and heard those first bellows from Robert Plant. ..........
AH Aaaaaaaaah Aaaah. AH Aaaaaaaaaaaah Aaah

This Chemical Brothers mix of a Spiritualized song. It's pretty long and doesn't kick in properly until about 3:30 but I remember hearing it for the first time and stopped what I was doing to just listen:

Yeah, I'm standing by Crazy Horses as a bona fide rock song. The fact that Alex Harvey covered makes it more so! (didn't realise he'd covered it)

Hadn't heard that before. I think the original is pretty much untouchable - bass line is such a simple/tasteful/clever one. And the lyrics are so good... and when the gospel chorus kicks in at the end, well..

If you like that kind of sound you'd probably enjoy some of Death in Vegas' stuff..
