Have you tried Elixir strings before?
Sorry, no

What other brands are you familiar with?
Status, Da'darrio, Dunlop, Rotosound, Bass Centre, Thomastic, Picato, Ernie Balls

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
I have a Shuker Jazz, a Warwick Star Bass and a Squier Precision, all 5 stringers

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
Will be for practicing daily, rehearsing with others weekly and gigging weekly

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I currently use flats on two of my Basses so it will be good to compare the Elixirs with the Roundwounds on my Jazz Bass and the Flats on one of the others. As I have a range of Basses there will be opportunities to see if the Elixirs suit them all. In addition, with me being a 5 Stringer, the chance to check out the "low B" is a further opportunity I can offer.
Here's a link to a Review today of something with Rubber Strings( bet Elixir don't do these)?

Have you tried Elixir strings before?
Yes, several times

What other brands are you familiar with?
D'addario nickel and steel, DR, Status Hotwire, Zon

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
Most likely Alembic Series I, Dingwall Super J, Roscoe LG3005, Lakland JO

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
Studio, practice

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I can easily report on strings durability as regards retaining brightness with heavy percussive styles. I am also very sensitive to string flexibility.

Count me in please :)

Have you tried Elixir strings before?

Yes, the stainless steel ones. They are on all three of my main basses as I won't use anything else.

What other brands are you familiar with?

Many, my (almost) favourites are D'Addario, Elites, and Dunlop

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?

Peavey Zodiac (PJ bass) upgraded with high output neodymium pickups.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)

Very regular gigging and rehearsals, and my band are recording their second album which is hopefully to be released in August.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?

Because I am very fussy with my strings and tone, that brand new string sound is essential to my tone. I have never used another string which hasn't been taken off after around 3 gigs because of my aggressive attack and tendency to sweat.

I haven't posted any as of yet

Only on a few basses I've tried out in shops (when I've primarily been trying out the bass, not the strings), never bought a set myself.

What other brands are you familiar with?
Rotosound is my standard go-to but in the past I've used DR (coated), Warwick, Ernie Ball, D'Addario.

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
Just my Sandberg California TM5. I lost a bunch of basses in a warehouse fire in 2013 and was put off playing for a year or so. Got the desire to play back, now working on getting my chops back!

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
It will be mainly home practice given the above. I'm also looking to emigrate (to China) very soon, whereupon I hope to get back into live playing, and maybe some studio time too.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I've done the "style" of bass strings and bass playing - bright red ones on a customised Thunderbird in a silly hair metal band - with the re-learning being a bass player I've been going through recently (and the hair all gone), I'm now a lot more about the "substance" than just the gimmicks. Also, I have a varied musical taste, usually listen to rock and metal but prefer playing everything from Jamiroquai to classical pieces, which means using a really wide range of tones and techniques.

I've never particularly reviewed musical gear other than in sales posts. I used to be sent albums to review for a website (chosen as a writer rather than fan submitted), though the site is sadly now defunct. If you'd like to see my review writing in the form of critical analysis of recent books I've read, look no further than the Amazon (.co.uk). :)

Best,
Dan

•Have you tried Elixir strings before?

Yes, for the past 3 years it's been the only string I have bought.

•What other brands are you familiar with?

DR, Fender, Ernie Ball, Dean Markley, La Bella, Rotosound and Circle K

•What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?

Musicman Stingray 4, 3 band.

•What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)

All three, Studio, Gigging and Practising.

•Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?

I have tried numerous brands of coated strings so I believe I pretty good handle on Elixirs competition. I play a vast array of styles and I am very sensitive to changes in tone from strings (Age and wear)

•Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting)

No sorry. But I am a respected (Fnar fnar) Basschat member.

I am very interested in strings specifically catered for drop tunings!

I am a Stainless steel user.

Wow, love to be considered.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?
Yes, but on a bass that didn't belong to me.

Rotosound, D'Addario, Dean Markley, SIT, Elites, Dunlop, Marlleaux
What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
More than likely one of my 2 ACG's and "Marvin", the Carvin/Marlleaux clone.

I play in a 65+ gigs a year band so they will get plenty of "real life" action. Having tried a good many brands already I am a good position to compare against what is already on the market. I love testing new products as I already do some of this.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?

I have been using Elixir strings for approx 9-10yrs.

What other brands are you familiar with?

D'Addarrio, DR, GHS, Ernie Ball, La Bella, Ken Smith.

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?

Lakland 55-02, Shuker Uberhorn, Fender Jazz, Warwick Thumb.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)

Professional recording, performance and rehearsal

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?

I have been using Elixir strings for approx 9yrs and I am very familiar with the quality of the strings. I would be able to pick up up on any subtle changes in tone, feel and life of the strings very easily.

I also play several types of music where different bass tones are required, so strings that can give me a versatile response is very important to me.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?

I have, used them on a number of basses a good few years back. I was disappointed with them; the tone was never quite right for me and found the coating to be very flaky. Have not revisited since.

What other brands are you familiar with?
Many, but primarily D'Addario and DR

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
They will probably go on a Warwick bass.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
I do not gig, so this will be for recording in the studio and general practice.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I am a previous customer that has moved away due to dissatisfaction, so Elixir have their work cut out to turn me around!! I am also a fan of the coated DR strings, so it would make for an interesting comparison.
Never reviewed a set of strings before, but you will find a few reviews in the review section on here, most recently a Warwick review http://basschat.co.uk/topic/239427-warwick-streamer-stage-i-5-string-2013/ :)

Hokay, always interested:

Have you tried Elixir strings before?
Yes, tried them a few years ago, but as a mainly pick player, their fraying put me off. The DR Coated ones I tried not long ago we're better in this respect, but still not great. It's a challenge for string manufacturers, I think.

What other brands are you familiar with?
I use DRs these days - I moved onto them from D'Addarios, but I've also used Ernie Balls, Rotosound, Warwick, Newtone, Elites, and even Hartke

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
I'll try them on my Shuker, although if they're long enough they might go on my Dingwall, as I'm playing that the most right now.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
Home practice and gigging. Lots of gigging.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I'm always looking for the 'best' strings for me, and over years of buying and trying, I've become quite sensitive to tension, tone and feel. I gig a lot (75 gigs or so last year), so they'll get a good run out in the real world.

•Have you tried Elixir strings before?

Yes, they were on an Ibanez Bass I bought.

•What other brands are you familiar with?

D'Addario, Fender, Ernie Ball

•What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?

Ibanez SR4500E, USA Fender Precision, Fender Jazz

•What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)

Pub/club gigging, rehearsals, Jazz Band gigs, weddings

•Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?

I play at least twice weekly in pubs and clubs, with rehearsals in between, this will be a great test of the strings longevity. I also play a lot of Jazz and Big band gigs, this would allow me to test their suitability on a variety of musical styles.

None unfortunately.

No

What sort of environment will you be playing them in?

Rehearsal, home practice and home recording

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?

95% of my strings for 25 years have been Rotosound so it will be good to compare a totally different string. Have done a few product tests before.

Very interested to try the new Elixirs - I have several basses with differing needs and it would be interesting to give them a real run.

At present I have:

US P Bass deluxe with Elixir nanowebs - been on the bass for around 9 months now - with a wipe of wd40, the freshness is restored

Mex 60s Fender Jazz bass with stainless d'addarios - EMG pups give greater attack - maybe too much for round wounds - Elixirs would help here..

G&L Tribute 5 string with stainless D'addarios - vast range of tones switching from passive to active

Rickenbacker 4003 with Fender flat wounds - needed to have these strings at the time, as I broke my left middle finger so it was softer to play, with a very low action

Rickenbacker 4004 with Elixir Nanos - awesome combination

'94 Gibson Les Paul Bass with Elixir Nanos - surprisingly clear light sound emanating from a beast of an instrument!
So plenty of diverse scenarios from which to test and evaluate..

To answer the questions:

Have you tried Elixir strings before? - YES

What other brands are you familiar with? Fender, D'Addario, Rotosound, Ernie Balls, Picato

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on? Gibson Les Paul bass, Ric 4003, Ric 4004, US P Bass deluxe, Mex Jazz 6os, G&L Tribute 5 string

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practising) - Gigging twice a week - intimate pub gigs, larger club outdoor festivals, parties, weddings and theatre as part of a tribute / cancer awareness show in Bury St Edmunds

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings? Heavy (as in a lot of) user using both pluck and Pick on many different basses in many different situations, covering a wide variety of styles

Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting) - frequent poster to Ric forum on Facebook plus Band web pages and FB groups ( www.electrumband.co.uk )

Only their guitar strings and that was about 10 years ago.

What other brands are you familiar with?
I am currently using Warwick Black Label, LaBella Steels and Overwater Steels. In the past I have used strings by Rotosound, Elites, DR, Thomastik, Pedulla and SIT. I am always on the look out for the right strings for the basses I use and the sound and feel that I want.

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
Warwick Star Bass 5-string. Gus G3 5-string (x3), Sei Off-set Flamboyant fretless 5-string, Overwater Original 5-string (36" Scale). Also if there are strings to fit I'll check them out on my Burns Sonic and Fernades Pie-Zo basses - both short scale.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
Everywhere and all situations. My band Dick Venom & The Terrortones gig most weeks and rehearse every week. Although we have recently finished the tracking for our new album, I am sure that there will be more recording happening in the next 12 months.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I use an eclectic selection of less usual basses, and play both finger style and with a pick. I am very open to trying out new bass technology, and while I have been pretty happy with my current string selections I know that there are better strings for me out there some where. They just haven't been fitted to my basses yet. Also I am a great believer in finding the right string for each individual bass that I use. IMO it is essential that the strings have to match the bass and the player's style and sound.
I've posted some "reviews" of basses that I have owned on this site - mostly in the Bass Porn section.

I would really like the opportunity to try these new strings and have the chance to give direct feedback to a big company.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?
Yes I have used Elixirs on acoustic guitar and electric guitar, and once recently on one of my basses (I believe they were the old type of string)

What other brands are you familiar with?
I have used DR strings, Ernie Ball, Thomastik, Elites, Rotosound, Jim Dunlop, Overwater and D'Addario strings in the past.

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?
I will definitely try them on my two main gigging basses, which are a 5 string active Jazz Bass, a passive Squier Precision 5 string. I may also try them on a Lakland 5502 Deluxe and 4 string Jazz bass, depending on the sound from the strings.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)
I will primarily use them for live use with a large Soul band and also pop/dance band. The coating would seem to really thrive and work well in live applications. I will also have them on the basses I play and practice with on a daily basis. They may also get used for some recording work.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?
I have been a gigging musician for 16 years, and started when I was 15 years old. I would like to think I have a good solid foundation to judge what makes for a good bass tone and have tried many brands of bass and strings over the years. I now play in two very different bands both requiring very different sounds from the instrument. I play in a 11 piece soul band which requires a classic P bass tone with the extended range of a B string to accommodate key changes. I also play in a 5 piece pop/dance band which requires a different playing approach and style to a large soul band, and I feel these two different areas would be a good challenge for the strings. I also play in very hot clubs and venues and seem to have very destructive sweat which can often leave some brand of string useless after 2 gigs, which can get very expensive!
The best feedback will win a year's supply of strings (3 sets)
And that sums up exactly why I use Elixir's - hell even 2 sets generally last the year.

Have you tried Elixir strings before?

Absolutely - my main bass is currently wearing them. I've used them for years, however financially I find it hard to justify putting a pair on my basses - even though they'd all be played so much more if I did. If they send a 4 string pair, then putting them on the Warwick would give me a good comparison of how the strings have been improved - and if that actually relates in a positive manner.

What other brands are you familiar with?

Ernie Balls are my back up brand, and I've used D'Addarios from time to time.

What bass(es) will you try the new strings on?

I've currently got a light hybrid set on my '98 Warwick Fortress One, so I'd be more interested to see how they affect my feelings towards the lower end spectrum of my basses - especially that 5 string Cort Curbow. I've never had the chance to test them on a 5 String, mainly because I swear they didn't exist before.

What sort of environment will you be playing them in (e.g studio, gigging, practicing)

I'm a college lecturer and a private tutor, so it'll be used in a variety of teacher manners (a couple of my college kids adore the strings, but won't pay the price of the strings new). This will be plugged and unplugged, as not all of my students have multiple amps - Elixirs have always tended to fair better in this environment due to their 'twanginess'. I do a lot of home recording for film/video game composition too, so how the strings would sound there would be a test.

Why do you think you'll be a good candidate to test the strings?

I use my bass everyday for my personal pleasure and also for different aspects of teaching - so for me the string choice has to be perfect, as otherwise it could easily affect my professional life, and as I'm using the bass all the time I'm interested in strings the last much longer than the standard, changing strings is a time consuming element that I don't always have time for. Secondly, I've written for blog sites/websites before, as my writing/review style is engaging but not condescending - after all I'm writing a review to tell people how great/not so the product is, not an essay on how my dog is better than your dog (no essay needed - MY DOG WINS THE END)

Links to any blogs/reviews you may have already posted (not essential but interesting)

OHNOBETA - a website I set up to discuss technology/gaming that also incorporated reviews. I no longer have time to do it sadly, it just floats on the internet's surface.

STTeachingUK - not sure of the relevance, but this is my teaching website that relates back to my Facebook page which all my students have access to. I could easily post the review on the website to spread love and harmony for [s]Spiderman[/s] nano web strings.
