Wow!!
As long as you aren't giving any personal details away, I'd go for it, stranger things have happened!!! Just be careful mate! Even though you have shipped my bass, I'd hate to hear you wound up in a ditch somewhere!
+1 for that.
Plus $100 per show isn't a lot to live on when you're there...

Still seems really odd to me, and considering how the emails are written, the strange disappearance of other bassists, their inability to find a bassist in the states together with the stuff about the spiritual guru, personally I'd run a mile!

Yes, do be careful. Even though we have established that a band called Leaving Eden exists, you don't really know who you are talking to on line. There are many ways of people appearing to be something they aren't - some of which are outlined in various posts above.

I would never have got to the end of that e-mail without some paragraphing.
Yes, there are a lot of errors in Grammar in that email
As others have said, that's not in itself necessarily a measure of the content
But the lack of points, breaks and paragraphs made it difficult to actually read properly
It was what some people would call "a stream of consciousness"

Anyhow, I don't quite get the "spiritual advisor" thing anyway
But how have they found out about you? Have they heard you playing?
Have they come across demos or photos?
Sounds rather dodgy to me

... but then it's your call....
Maybe tell them your financial advisor wants a chat with their spiritual advisor..... ;)

Maybe find out if there's any evidence of bassists disappearing over there. Could be a serial killer specialising in disappearing bass players, he's exhausted the supply in his area and now has a cunning plan to import them.

Does he know where the uk is ? Only I'm not sure that Americans are known for their intimate knowledge of geography 😁

Just checked, $100 currently equates to £65.26.

For comparison, Jobseeker's allowance for those of us 25 or over is up to £73.10 a week.

Any chance you could ask this bloke to email a preliminary copy of the contract for proof reading?

You think you'll get more than one gig a week?

Well IF it's genuine he hasn't looked into the visa requirements has he? You cannot just go over to America and start playing in a band

I know a guy who got the gig as drummer for Jason Mraz he only got a visa to tour with him because Jason insisted that he was the drummer he wanted and got Warner Brothers to pay to get him one ;it cost thousands of Dollars. He had to prove "excellence in his field".

Obviously this was for touring at the high end of the business ...he supported the Stones in Rio for example, but the principle is the same.....the Americans want you to prove that you cannot get an equivalent person from the "home market" before they will let you in to play!.

I'd be asking for a guaranteed number of gigs within a set time period and a minimum payment in lieu of said number of gigs.

In reality what's being offered equates to just under £24k per annum on the totally unrealistic basis of gigging once a day, every single day of the year. There's very little mention of how many solid gigs they have lined up other than one this week "with the singer from ratt", the rest is just name dropping a bunch of artists and vague references to a bike rally.

This guy is obviously completely nuts and there will be plenty of reasons he can't hold onto a decent bass player. Sadly there's plenty of young kids who might see this sort of thing as their chance to 'make it big' with a rock band on their way up.

Believe it or not, I'm quite happy with my desk job and playing bass in my spare time.

I got this message a couple of days ago via Gumtree...

Hi I'm a singer/songwriter looking for a blues jazz folk pop bass player !
Can you email me your mobile no:
And I'll txt you my soundcloud demos link !
You may be interested ?
All the best

He could have put his demo link in that message. May be legit, but I didn't follow it up.

Interesting, but my radar is pinging away like mad. The whole thing smells weird to me. Like a dead goldfish in the pages of a library book. Or an old forgotten prawn behind the skirting board. Madonna's pants. Or... you get the picture. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot bass-playing pole. Even if I could find one. But on the other hand, part of me wants the OP to go ahead and do it, so we can see what happens!! :D

Right haven't got time to read all the responses but here is his next email he sent me.

This guy is bat sh*t cray cray, but I believe genuine. I might try learning the songs but I don't have a passport.

His reply!Cool man, ya lot of info there that I sent, but I wanted to give as much details as possible in order for you to make a decision.. if you go to http://www.leavingeden.com/
on the front page there is a "play music" Soundcloud link scrolling down just beneath the first pics you see.1/4 way down. Please shoot a vid of you playing one or 2 of our songs, that's all I need. Please let me see that and next step will be to maybe to a facetime conversation or skype so we can discuss getting you here. as I said, we will pay travel so we have to go over logistics. sound good? any questions? peace!!!
Two options IMHO :

1. It's the next step in establishing bona fides, in a clever sting, which I still wouldn't rule out, or

2. He's just a nutter, and has no grasp on reality. As has been said, there is a very complex and expensive process to go through to get a work visa for the USA,and even if you had a passport, it would take months and lots of cash, even if it were ultimately possible.

That said, not for anyone else to tell you what to do - we are all just worried about the welfare of a fellow player, and we will all be interested to see how it pans out!

I've had this kind of thing happen to me.
Not with the whole having to go abroad to meet them.
But i've had someone contact me and tell me they wanted me in their band because their friend had "seen" a vision of his band playing an American tour, and i was in it.
So crazy as it sounds to some of us, there are definitely people who 100% believe in these things.

Yes. But we don't know if it's the band who has contacted the OP or a 'third party'.
Wow... I assumed it was just an obvious scam but the fact it has some semblance of truth in it makes the story even more crazy...

...spiritual advisor

Or do any other job really. One of our PhD graduates has recently secured a post doc research position in Texas, it's taken ages for the visa documentation to get sorted at their end, and this is for a position that he's successfully interviewed for and been offered, all above board. Once all that's done you still then have to go for an interview at US Immigration here to weed out the people they don't really want over there. It's not trivial.

Brilliant :)
OR you could be the bass player that is about to get fired and have only just found out reading this

All sounds dodgy to me and pay is pretty pathetic for a band that supposedly has some interest from record labels. At that stage i would think they would be demanding a substantial fee for their gigs.
Maybe not - i shall discuss with the great Oracle in the Sky.

Mmmmm !!!!!
