Recent gig the board outside read "SpiderBite" which was slightly less crap. We're all around 40, it's a rock covers band. Sounds we're still in college. Maude Posted May 10, 2015 Share Posted May 10, 2015 I was on a band called 'The Bobblehats' for a number of years. We tried to change the name a few times but it just stuck with us somehow. Even played a 'last ever gig',stopped for a while, came back with a new name and new songs. Chumbawamba - I believe it was in response to bands called things like Kajagoogoo (another stupid name) but it's still really annoying to say/hear. Which brings me to Goo Goo Dolls. That's just dumb. You're grown men, but your name suggests a Japanese girl band. Scouting For Girls is a topper though, regardless of its subtle cunning. But it suits. Lame name, lame band IMO. I apologised in advance, explained that I didn't name them and then told them the name. They would then look at me, puzzled, and tell me it was a terrible name for a band. Then they'd ask me what it meant, and explaining the origin of the name was met with more bemusement than the name itself. I think Tony Hadley is something of a history buff, which shows in the lyrics of "To Cut A Long Story Short" which describe a soldier losing his mind in the first world war. (Edited to admit their debut album is something of a guilty pleasure - once they started wearing sensible clothes they went totally mince though). I wont mention the band I play with now, not because I don't like the name - I do, but after almost 3 years, dozens of gigs and countless reminders, they still have somebody elses name as Bass Player on the websites. So when Hughie said, 'For Fags 'N' Matches... opportunity knocks...' even as a young lad I remember thinking, 'no, it doesn't - that's the worst band name in the history of band names'... of course this was decades before Guns 'N' Roses, in itself a pretty crass band name. About 15 years ago I played in a rock covers duo called Hideous Things - which I might have actually suggested myself... Didn't do us any harm, we were stupidly busy for a couple of years. Jon. One of their most popular numbers was 'Anal Intruder' - a romantic little ditty that was enough to get anyone's foot tapping. I now play with a band called Ticket 415.
