Shell pink with a white scratchplate and a rosewood Jazz neck. Since then I've had (and still have) a 57-type bitsa, Squire VM, a Dee Dee Ramone and, my main bass, an '08 MIM which is just perfect. I've also had and got rid of a crappy MIM and an American Special. The wife also has a Tanglewood P copy and a rather nice red metal flake Fender Come to think of it, there are a lot of P-Basses in my house. [/quote] it certainly has a more bright sound and presence than the other basses. I must admit, though, that it's not my main P bass anymore. But I must admit that when listening to all these P basses I don't think the weight has as much of an impact on the tone as I used to think. In Jan 2014 they sent the bass to a guitar show in LA (NAMM) and it never came back. It then re-surfaced in Sweden with Anders Anderson who I suspect acquired it at NAMM. Then I saw an American Deluxe with the original style humbucker going for £500 on eBay and thought, what the heck? It needed some tlc and I still prefer the tone of all my other basses at home but in front of the band it just sounds so right. The white one is tuned to C# for band use and came with a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, although I'll be putting the original pickup back in when it arrives. The white one has a couple of gaps in the neck pocket which is a shame considering the black one is flawless. They're both excellent players, absolutely zero GAS for me right now. [/quote] I use them in all my Precisions and most Jazzes too (it's that little black think on my avatar's red Precision too).. When I bought my first OLP MM2, that very thumb-rest on the Squier was attached to the OLP's pickguard, with strong double sided sticky tape, roughly at the position where a Precision pickup would be mounted. I removed it but kept it. Then I found it very useful on other basses. I really like to have something to rest my thumb at roughly the spot where the top of a Stingray's pickup would be... I had the thumb rest copied in aluminium by 'apa' (I haven't seen him around here in ages! ), so I have a couple more. Last year we had a thread about thumb rests and a few people liked this design, so I made a trace in Illustrator and 'Diablo' made a few of these in black acrylic for those who wanted them. I wish I had asked for more, the plastic ones are very nice, and I sanded them down to about 3mm (the original is 5mm I believe), which is perfect. They stay in place very well, I never had one move, let alone detach. But you can detach them when you want to, and remove the sticky residue without leaving a mark.
