Bought a couple of months ago from Mark at Bass Direct, original ad here. I'm asking what I paid for it.

http://bassdirect.co...storius_CS.html

I find myself between a rock and a hard place with this bass, I have a lovely Tokai JazzSound that, whilst it is not as good as this bass, does the job well enough for me (that bass is also listed for sale here http://basschat.co.u...er-report-pups/). So, I'm torn between emotional links to the CS bass and pragmatic links to the Tokai. On that basis I thought I'd list both and see what develops. I'll entertain trade offers on this bass as there is a specific bass I'd be happy to take in trade/PX but which I can't openly ask for on the forum!

does this one have the Epoxy resin on fingerboard, whereas the Tokai does not? just out of interest, how much difference does this make? (sorry if this is not the right place to ask)

cheers, Roman

Yes, and so does the Tokai, although in the case of the Tokai it was not a factory finish but was put on following the defret (which of course makes it a more authentic Jaco tribute that the FCS which has never had any frets!)

As to differences over a normal/unfinished rosewood board, it depends on so many factors (including type of strings, action, and playing style, but I'd say it feels slightly harder under the fingers and produces a slightly brighter tone. I also feel it is a little less forgiving in terms of intonation, although I might be imagining this! I assume it also wears less under rounds than will an unfinished board.

Both necks are lovely to play, I'd say the neck on the FCS Jaco is quite possibly one of the nicest I've ever played, and this seems to be the consensus elsewhere (e.g., on Talkbass)

I have withdrawn the Tokai FL so this is now most definitely for sale now. I will be happy to consider trade offers for basses of similar value from Fender, Musicman, Wal, and other classic basses (mentioning no names).

I wonder whether you are again hankering after a famous 63 RI by any chance !!!

Not quite John but not far off, think of a bass from the year afterwards and you're there (funnily enough whilst looking exactly the same they are different beasts)!

Hey Chris....

Didn't I buy one of these from you back in the day ??

Yes, that was 2007! Long time ago eh. It's funny that I fell very much out of love with it quite suddenly, and like yourself was playing in a Chili's band that needed a Modulus Flea more than it needed a Jaco (despite Flea rather mysteriously playing what appears to be a FCS Jaco in the video for 'Tell Me Baby' I've hankered after one ever since, and decided to go for it after selling my DB a while back.

Thing is I think I got VERY lucky with the Tokai, which is outstanding, and even I don't need two fretless Jazzes! Just strikes me as more sense to move on the more expensive instrument, especially as my number 1 fretless will always be the Ric (yep, that one John!).

Good to hear from you both :)

Seriously are we not even allowed to write the word Rickenbacker any more?

Edit: just re-read the rules. 😊

Nice basses. Loving the look of the FCS.
