I don't have the message any more, but I've had a discussion with him. Months, if not years, ago. At that point he said that he was looking for offers in about the £850 region. I didn't ask him how much he'd spent on it.

Now he says that he wants about £1800.

I think he's just making numbers up. if he actually thinks it's worth £1800 or even £850, it's going to be on ebay forever.

I'd guess that he's using free listing days to list it.

Haha it's went up in value as it's an antique now durrrr! Lol.

I'm not even sure if his string prices are right seems very high after looking on the site he claims he got the strings from.

I'm not believing the $500 string cost, from a quick look at the Octave4plus website they might have come to $200, but on the ebay listing it clearly states

The strings are a various collection of brands running from .317 (needs to be thicker than that), .254, .232, .217, .184, .156, .135, .105, .080, .060, .032, .024, .014, .011 and .008.

which to me looks like some guitar strings, a bass 5 string set plus some fence wire

The more we learn about this, the fewer possibilities there are that the seller has any grip on any aspect of reality.

Who'd have thought it, an eBayer with no grip on any aspect of reality! A Pretty litigious statement that...!

if you take the last zero off all his figures then it all makes far more sense! the 10 string one I found sold for $560 about the same time as he says he bought this, so allowing for the fact that this one wasn't in playable condition then £250 sounds more realistic than £2500.

I'm pretty sure that he's stuck with this.

As someone that's played a few ERB's, and always though they looked amazing, I have to admit that this doesn't do anything for me at all. In fact I doubt it's playable.

He'd be better off returning it to whatever number of strings it was before.

He's definitely stuck with it! I :)

Thin strings not even on the fretboard, fat strings touching each other, bits of gaffer tape covering up holes, no ability to intonate it, workmanship not even at O-Level woodwork standard, and the 'unusual' sales tactic of putting it up at TEN MILLION POUNDS and asking for an offer?!

I wouldn't even have it for ONE pound. I wonder what exactly is going on here, it all seems a bit crazy. :gas:

i was having a search to see if I could find the country of origin of the Tennessee basses and I think I might have found the seller, over on sevenstring.org, under the name SKJORH, looks like he's had it for years!

and I think that it originally looked like this
So he's screwed around with it just to mess it up? Looks like lower guage strings originally.

That's why I said earlier that he'd be better off returning it to the number of strings that it was built for.

Good detective work, have you been watching The Bridge?!

Now we need to storm his house and rescue the bass before he inflicts any more torture on it!

With any luck a decent luthier could restore it to its former glory! (which to be fair is 'a ridiculous bass with way too many strings that makes you look like an idiot if you attempt to play it')
