Had a check on the serial number and it indicates that it has a Vintage Sunburst with maple neck finish?

Might be a respray?

It's an amazing bass so I don't mind either way.

It could be a respray. Though I’ve seen that colour a few times before, a quick Google search found these. If you ever take the neck off, one day,  you may see some signs? Wonder if that the MM database is accurate from back then?

Like you said, it’s loving it that counts.

I must admit that this one doesn't get out of the house much (i.e. not at all), but it really is a great bass.

It's one of only 100 made. 1 retained by Ernie Ball, 1 presented to NAMM organisers, 49 for US retail and 49 for overseas.

That’s the one...I have to own this one one day. I’ve had about 6 stingrays, but the Namm one is the one I’ve been chasing.

This is my golden duo, as I like to call them. The right one is a 2008 Stingray limited edition in sequoia gold. The white one is a 2012 gilded white Stingray classic which features a painted neck and an option to switch it to passive mode with a tone knob.

Here's my Ray34, Nordstrand 4.2, East preamp, HB7's and Stingray headstock painted by David Wilson 👍...for anybody thats interested the American Stingray pickguard & pickup is a direct fit on the 34's...the 34 has what looks like a thumb rest between the mounting lugs. HB7's need 2 holes plugged and re drilled as pitch is different...

'78 on the left, '86 on the right. You can just see the beautiful birds eye neck on the '86.

There's a difference in the tones between the two, the' 86 being a lot brighter whilst the '78 is more "classic" tone. I tried to compare the pre-amps but the '78 one is potted so no idea if the circuit schematic and values are the same as the '86.
