Black!

Ooh, nice. I’d go the for the one in the bottom picture. Just some playing around on the configurator, or a potential purchase?

Thanks gents, I think you’re right. I *want* to like the charcoal one more but in reality I prefer the black one. Looks cleaner.

@Wilco I’m just playing around for now but I think the above photos are the best basses I’ve created on the configurator so far. 34” scale (though I was toying with 32” or even 30”), 19mm spacing, Hipshot hardware, abalone “M” logo, Delano Xtender pickup, passive, with a coil tap switch for series/parallel/single coil. A Tonestyler was a tempting option but I decided against it in the end. Comes in at ~£1500!

Not a bad price for a custom bass in the long run. I'd thoroughly recommend going for a shorter scale too, I play 31.5" now and I LOVE it!

I prefer the charcoal because it’s warmer looking and different. I had a Sandberg in blackburst and got bored with the look fairly quickly. YMMV.

Yeah I hear you, I actually specced the charcoal first. Discovered the black accidentally! I do keep looking at the charcoal and going “hmmmmm...”

I'm huge fan of Maruszczyk basses. Over the years I owned few Jakes, but this is my first plunge into Elwood (Absolution). This bass is a beast (from the East), the range of tones is amazing and it plays like butter.

Beautiful. Is the P pickup in the traditional P position? Or closer to the neck like most jazz basses?

Hi. Me again. Just had my Jake 5 apart looking for a buzzing/papery sound coming from the body area when I play low notes. Unplugged, that is. Anyway - looking into the holes where the pickups sit, it looks like the body is made of a few sheets of MDF laminated together (see pics - second one shows it best) ..the certificate that comes with the bass says it has and alder body with 'tone cavities' - can anyone shed any light on how these are constructed? If it's not MDF I'm looking at, it's definitely some kind of fibreboard. Also, still getting the papery/buzzing sound with everything removed apart from the bridge. Don't think it's the truss rod, what could it be?

Thanks in advance, Ben.

Weird. What bridge do you have fitted? Rogue springs on the fender style bridges can buzz, but you’d probably have spotted that yourself by now..

Thanks Drax - it's a Hipshot bridge. It does have those Fender style springs but yeah, I've checked them. Running out of avenues here! I've even checked that all the cavity shield tape is stuck down properly.. thinking maybe it's something inside one of these tone cavities that may or may not exist - I can't see through to any other cavities from the pickup routs.. The bass id mighty light tho, so I reckon they could be in there. It's just a bit of a bummer because the rattle kinda chokes the notes that it affects..

It's funny how this thread keeps going on and on (and on); I questioned this whole 'Official Club' malarky some four years ago and responses thereafter inferred the original couple of posts by the OP were nothing more than a sales pitch, which seems to have been the case as the member disappeared into the ether about a month after his initial posts.

I'm sure they're nice enough basses, although not my bag at all, but hey, it was a sales pitch and worked extremely well, eh?

What a strange comment. An xxxxxxx club thread is nothing more than a general discussion thread on whatever xxxxxxxx is, good or bad.

While the initial post / poster was clearly a sales pitch of some sort, subsequent posts have been useful and informative, which is I assumed why it has continued.

Obviously there are people on here who do sales but there are also people who cover general owning information. I still like my Maruszczyk even though i have had a couple of quality issues that maybe shouldn't be there. These have been documented here so it is a handy resource looking through so you can get a general view.

107 pages of content, including: opinions; problems; advice and porn, makes this a completely viable thread IMO, no matter what its origins. My Maruszczyks have been great and have consigned my 4003s to being merely decorative.

In other news, I’ve been toying with swapping the necks of my Elwood Ls over for a while. Today I thought I’d check the hole alignment. Yeah, that’s not happening, they are not the same. I shouldn’t be surprised, Adrian has said in the past that (at least back then) that each body and neck are made for each other. Hmm, other GAS reducing tactics must be employed methinks.
