So, I was on my hols chillin' which gave me time to read all this thread - yep, every page.....!

One thing it gave me was some good history on my Elwood 5 string. Looks like BC member AREA purchased it on a visit to Adrian's shop in 2015. Then last year I think another BC member, Bubinga5 (Andrew), bought it from him. The original spec had chrome knobs, Delano pickups & a Glockenlang pre amp. Not sure who changed the knobs & Glockenlang, but Andrew put the current Bartolini pickups in it. The knobs are now 'Fender' style & the pre amp is a Delano 2 band.

I became the third owner in March this year when I travelled up Evesham way to buy the bass from Andrew. I know personal to me as I own the thing, but understanding some of its history i found quite interesting! I think AREA has switched to Sire's, & that's the brand I switched away from to get the Maruszczyk's - funny how it goes.

The other i thing I noticed was that despite this being a massive thread, there's not too many contributors. I reckon it's current owners trying to keep the brand under the radar, so that Adrian's builders aren't too busy when they place an order! Lol

Perhaps just an exclusive club that once you've got one you 'get it' & then trust the brand.

(Ps; for anybody interested, I've started a 'Maruszczyk Owners UK' group on Facebook, to compliment this great BC thread)

Oh, I am not only into the Sires (wich I still like), but my next Bass will be a Bass from Adrians Custom Shop.....

Having decided to let my Yamaha BB5000 go I got to thinking about a replacement. Just spent a lazy 15mins configuring a 5 string passive Jake: nothing fancy - swamp ash finished in black with a black scratchplate, birdseye maple neck/headstock/fingerboard, Aguilar pickup, hipshot tuners. In fact it will look just like a 5 string version of my much beloved JV Precision. Comes in at a whisker under £1400 with a few bits a bobs. Can anyone see a good reason not to go ahead? It is looking like a green light at the moment, although I will sleep on it whilst on hols for a week.

I was undecided about the nut. Still am. Also changed my mind and will opt for the standard bridge and Delano pickup. I'll keep looking at the pic while I am away!

I didn't like their standard bridge, it's solid enough, but adjusting intonation is overly fiddly and a bit annoying. I would pay the extra and have a hipshot if you don't go with the mono-rail.

Also, I assume you can have almost any wiring options you want on your bass. Not just the standard V, V, T etc.?

Yup. I have a vol, blend, tone on my J set up and a 3 way rotary on MM p/up (series, para, single) rather than a mini switch. Ask and Adrian does his very best to accede to your requirement.

Yes, lightweight tuners.
Interesting observation about the bridge, Si. Anyone else had this issue?
The bridge is more fiddly than some because of the angle of the locking grub screw. However, given that I'm not altering the intonation or action that often, I don't find it a particular nuisance, but then again, my other bass is a Ric :D

My Maruszczyk Elwood 4p in Black burst. It's a 30" scale and weighs in at a delightfully pleasing 3.47Kg

Although it's not really a 4p anymore because I added an East J-Tone pre-amp. It sounded awesome before the change, now it's awesomer.

I hope this post works as I need to find a way to host then post my music photographs all over again. Fingers crossed...

Still debating whether or not to go with carbon rods - anyone have a view?
I never gave it much thought, to be honest. But I also like substantial necks... I love my Classic 50 series Precision neck. The truss rod adjustment is at the heel which is a pain, but I have adjusted it exactly zero times since I bought it 3-4 years ago. Those necks don't shift much. If I went for something slimmer I'd probably go for the rods option for extra stability. It adds a bit of £££ but if you're specifying a bass *just so*, you might as well go the extra inch or two.

Can only agree - it is lovely.

OK, just placed my order. Classic Jake 5 string, black with black pickguard, birdseye maple neck/board and headstock plus carbon rods. Delano pups, Chrome Hipshot B bridge and Ultralite tuners. Luminlay side dots. Should have done this 2 years ago!! Excitement mounts!!
