Apologies if posted before but Marcus Miller seems to be endorsing a low cost Jazz bass range

Not in stock yet at Thomann but under £300

Just watched the two reviews... hmm a bit odd that a bass he's putting his name to (the M3) isn't in the configuration he'd prefer (fewer frets, slimmer neck). The V7 J bass sounded good in his hands, maybe closer to what he's used to using; didn't hear enough of the M3 (rear pup soloed, front pup soloed, blended together) to know whether I like the tone.

We need a Sire Geddy first

The way i see it - Fender Japan to Fender Mexico for both basses so on to cheaper Squier version alongside. They've done the Fender & Squier models with the MIke Dirnt bass so I don't see why they shouldn't do it with others. the product lineup is totally complicated as it is so I don't think a few other models will make much of a difference

I just find it odd that he's interested in helping musicians and he elected to go with an unknown brand rather than the platform the squier brand would offer...

Maybe Fender/Squier couldn't (wouldn't is more likely) get the spec he wanted down to that price point?

I'm not sure really where in the market these go. The Jazz is fair enough, it'll sell well I imagine with the fairly unique preamp and Marcus is actually associated to Jazz basses (that headstock shape is fugly though).

The M3 has nothing in terms of relevance to Marcus and looks like the lovechild of a Traben and Ibanez SRX, I don't think black is the best colour for it as it looks like a metaller's bass. The red and brown ones (couldn't they think of a cooler name ?) do look a lot better.

I'd be interested in trying both however.

Just goes to show the power of good marketing and a top name artist endorsement.

People often say that artist endorsed and/or signature basses don't have a lot of influence but the buzz about Sire online has been huge since this was announced.

I'd guess if a new Korean made Fender J clone was released without the Marcus association it would get very little media and forum coverage.

The Flea endorsed bass was similar in terms of coverage and expectation but these do seem a lot nicer than those ones.
