Wonky2 Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I once owned a German warwick streamer LX jazz man, a precursor i believe to the fna jazzman (?) There are enough imaginative descriptors on here, (go play some ) This bass was fantastic to play. The electrics /preamp gave me such a diverse tonal range but more importantly the neck was fantastic. Super flat how i like it, huge bell brass frets......... One i should never have let go. I just bought my first bass after 14 years of playing electric guitar, picked it up yesterday: It's a 2004 Thumb 5 bolt on. Body is ovankol, neck is 3 piece ovankol, wenge fretboard, 24 frets. Tarnishing to some of the saddles and screws as you would expect and the JANII had disintegrated and been replaced with a nice bone one, but otherwise excellent condition, cost me £500, same as a new Mexican Fender P-bass would have cost me. [/quote] String spacing is 17-18mm I think, a little on the narrow side although I find it OK. The neck through has a broadneck option I think. Neck dive can be an issue on the bolt on neck 5ers I've heard, although with a decent strap I've not had any problems so far. Lw. Posted November 17, 2014 Share Posted November 17, 2014 Having just about fought off a bout of P-bass lust, I now seem to be missing the feel & sound of Warwick. I've gone back to 4-strings recently & find my 5-string Corvette a bit of a struggle at the moment, browsing the internet I seem to fancy a 4-string Katana or Infinity but there hardly seem to be any used ones about & new Warwick prices seem absolutely crazy. Anyone know much about the Katana's & Infinity's? Were they not very popular (I've never seen either in the flesh) or are they so good that no one wants to sell theirs (or even take them out the house)? Though I'm finding that my Legend 5 is capable of many different and varied tones... whether this is down to the Jazz/Humbucker pickup configuration or the Active EQ I've no idea. A lot of bass players I've met who have onboard preamps tend to find a tone they like then never change the EQ again! I find this a bit strange... surely the whole point of having the option is so you can have lots of different tones at your fingertips? I'd still like to try more Warwicks though, just out of curiosity... ...particularly a Streamer Stage II...
