Hi everyone!

PRICE DROP £1350 - THIS IS RIDICULOUS

Finally got to let this beast go. It's a 5 string 35" scale super jazz (Lion's Pride A) from the amazing Pete Skjold. I've owned it for around 6 years I think, originally came from somewhere on this forum, no idea where though! (maybe Leeds!?)

I've recorded with it on loads of stuff and it always sounds fantastic. It's a real weapon, can do an amazing Marcus and the bridge honk is really something special, if you're into that. The top is some kind of mental rippled maple, when you hold it up to the light you can see the shape of the grain. It's pretty nuts, I spoke with Pete Skjold about it and he was singing it's praises saying he hasn't seen a piece like it since. The neck is an un-laquered 3 piece with morado fretboard I think, and it's really fast. Overall feel is surprisingly light and nicely resonant. I'm afraid I don't have anything handy to weigh it with, but it weighs less than my 4 string Stingray, apologies if that's not a very helpful thing to say.

I *think* it's ash, and it's got a 3 band active EQ with a variable mid frequency which you adjust round the back. I don't really know too much more on the technical side, but I've always found Pete Skjold very helpful and friendly over email, he even called me to talk me through adjusting the mids - suffice to say you'll be well looked after if you choose to join to Skjold clan. If you do have any questions I will do my utmost to help!

Condition-wise it's pretty spotless and super shiny, there's a small nick near the locking jack, a tiny mark in the lacquer on the bottom edge which has been there since I got it, and some light indentations on the headstock. No actual chips etc., it's the most expensive thing I've ever bought so I looked after it! I haven't played it properly for a while as I'm back on 4 strings all the time now, so you might need to set it up a bit for yourself but I expect you'd want to do that with any instrument to get it right for you.

I'm based in Wimbledon if you want to come and tickle it. No trades I'm afraid. IT'S £1350.....

I was the original owner of this bass - nice to see it again! What a stunner it is.

Just thought I'd confirm a few details that you were unsure about re the specs incase anyone is wandering/it helps with the sale.

- That top laminate is definitely a Maple one - it's crazy, most people think it's Walnut! Very special.
- Body is indeed Ash, and lightweight too, I remember it feeling around the 8.5/9 lb mark.
- Circuit in this is an East/Skjold one. Its made by the fantastic John East but is voiced slightly differently to Pete Skjolds specifications. There is a mid range frequency trim pot in side too for fine adjusting the mid freq to work with the instrument.
- Pick ups are Skjold humbuckers, very nice growl and very quiet - If I remember correctly they are actually made by Dingwall for Skjold.
- I sem to remember there being a zero fret on the end of that fingerboard too which is supposed to improve intonation.

A fantastic instrument, and yes Pete Skjold is awesome on the customer service front, so you'll always have back up if you ever need anything.

Good luck with the sale, glad to see the old axe looking well.

No probs at all.

I have thought about it, but my tonal goals have changed slightly. It did blow everyone away, it's funny that not more people know of them, Pete Skjold is a great builder and is actually a PLAYER too ! Usually a good starting point!

Good luck with the sale. Recommend checking this bass out, it's peanuts for a serious instrument.

My condolances in respect of said passed equine.
Sadly I just can't justify this right now but I would absolutely endorse everything said about Pete Skjold here. I was stupid enough to sell my whaleback 6 but it was an exceptional bass and Pete's time and support by email and phone are second to none (I hadn't even bought the bass new).
He is definately a premier builder with a profile much lower than perhaps it should be. This will no doubt be a great instrument and anyone looking for a modern J bass in this price range could do much much worse IMO.

had a quick spin on this the other day - it really is absolutely outstanding sounding, you're more than welcome to come and give it a spin if you're local enough. You'll want it after you play it!!

I would consider trades for a high end lined fretless...

Hi Graeme,

I can't believe this hasn't sold. Maybe if it had something else written on the headstock it might have gone... hmmmm

May I suggest you put it in a specialist bass shop (The Gallery, Bass Gear or similar) on commission? You might get less, but I think if someone looking for a wicked 5 were able to play it, you'd defo sell it quicker.. I know you might take a hit on the cash but that's up to you. Things seem slow on here sometimes. Anyway, best of luck with it. Love seeing the pics !

I know, crazy times in the market!

Thanks for the suggestion - it's something I will do further down the line if it still hasn't been rehoused. Just feels like such cold treatment for something I love so much!! To be honest whilst it's not selling I do still like having it in the studio as a recording tool.

maybe I'll take some more pics see if I can't entice you back hahaha ;)

There's a Youtube vid of David Dyson playing a Skjold (I think) with Michelle N'DegeOchello. The track is call 'If that's Your Boyfriend' (recorded in Montreaux 1997) and the bass tone on it is simply stunning. GLWTS.
