What are you listening to right now?

Recommended Posts

Nine Inch Nails.

Got a mundane afternoon ahead; Pretty Hate Machine (remaster) up first, then I'll go Fragile/Deviations.

I happened upon this the other day and really made me wish I'd got to see AC Temple live.

I dug out my only album by them that I own (the rest were on tape I think, long gone), and it was on Blast First records. Blimey....Blast First. :)

I was never in to Lloyd Cole when he was around in the 80's but I looked him up a couple of years ago and dip into his stuff now and again. I only came to listen to him again after laughing at a misheard and misremembered lyric ("You're my favourite salty animal") which stuck in my head so much that I put it in to a song I was writing when I was struggling for something (when I found out what the song was called (Old Wants Never Gets) I found the actual line was "You're like to think you're a solitary animal").. anyway - nothing to do with this track Jennifer She Said - I like all Lloyd Cole demos and B-sides albums.

Also listening to Vivaldi RV807 - only discovered in 2005! Scholars continue to search for and succeed in unearthing long lost scores as many are known of, but are known to be missing.
This is not the best audio quality (there are CD quality versions on YT) but it's more entertaining to watch than an album sleeve. Not exactly rock'n'roll but it probably was, in it's own way, back in the day...

What on earth is going on with that acoustic - it's upside-down and strung normally - I'm really thrown by that. World Party - under-rated and forgotten about.

Karl Wallinger had a brain aneurysm just as World Party were  starting to get some mainstream recognition... he is a really good song writer.

Was a real shame, was a fan at the time, Karl is re-releasing all the back catalogue on vinyl currently, Bang was the 2nd release, came out on Friday.

I'm listening to some recordings my first band made - haven't heard them in about 20 years.

The sound of a Status Barracuda into a Trace stack via an Ibanez Phat Hed pedal. Made sense at the time 😂

He’s one of them lefties who plays right handed guitars strung right handed.

Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals does the same thing. And I think Bob Geldof might do as well, but I’m not Googling him because I don’t want two years of YouTube Boomtown Rats recommendations. Or even two minutes of YT recommendations for his solo stuff. 👎

I’ve often wondered if more players do this? I know Jimi Goodwin from Doves plays a right handed righty-strung Precision left handed. And I remember seeing Andy McCluskey from OMD playing a right handed Jazz bass right handed but it was strung lefty which took me a minute to get me head around. Must be more common than I’d thought?

Ace T by the way 👍

Lee Pomeroy plays upside down too. As does (or did) surf guitarist D i c k  Dale. Which must mean it's time for a gander again at this performance on 'Later'.
