doc40hz Posted June 14, 2014 Share Posted June 14, 2014 Hi y'all - looking for a bit of advice I'm thinking of buying a second hand GP12SMX AH250 head (salvaged from a combo) The seller states that the input distorts quite early when turning up the input gain; it's there but not as bad when the blend is turned all the way to "solid state"; could this be a pre amp valve problem (is the valve still included in the circuit to some degree even when blended out?) Guest Posted June 15, 2014 Share Posted June 15, 2014 As far as I know, when disengaged the valve is out of the equation. I've had a couple of SMX heads and still own an AH200. I only managed to get the slightest smidge of break up if any at all with the SMX pre with the valve drive on full. I'd steer clear until someone more knowledgeable comes along.
