Clever idea, but shouldn't the tuner circular slots be slightly extended towards the nut to prevent string catching on the circular edge?

Good point. I didn't spot that in my appreciation of the general aesthetic beauty of the whole thing.

i know they are pretty much seen as a standard headstock but i really think they are ugly as sin (all fender headstocks)
at least a lot of the others on this thread are thinking outside the box.

When Fender introduced the four-a-side headstock it was 'outside the box'.

The Fender 4-a-side headstock was just a progression of their 6-a-side guitar headstock which was "borrowed" from Paul Bigsby who "borrowed" it from CF Martin, who "borrowed" it from any number of German luthiers before them. Nothing really new at all.

OK, I didn't mean to suggest it didn't come from the 6-a-side. The rest I didn't know.

That's 1830s.

The bass with this monstrosity is on sale for a mere £700 on the bay. I think there's going to be a bidding war.

Surely there's no difference betweent the string moving against the edge of that recess or the more traditional Fender string tree?

It's true that life is full of such puzzles (geddit ??) In honesty I have absolutely no idea why my originally posted pic has changed to one of a 4000 piece jigsaw. It will remain one of the interwebs unsolved mysteries.

I like the look of a Fender headstock. Looks completely out of place (at least to my mind) on an acoustic though.

Agreed - and not nice on those symmetric double-cutaway semis either.
