This is my DIY project, hope you guys like it :) Singlecut Buzzard with nordstrand Big splits and hipshot hardware, body and headstock are padouk and the top wood is bookmatched spalted/curly maple. was trawling through some old pictures of warwicks online and found an image of one of the 3 original buzzard prototypes, slightly different body style but with a singlecut design as opposed to the final buzzards' 2 "horns", but without the pistol grip. really liked the look of the buzzard body shape without both horns, but was a big fan of the pistol grip, especially in a natural finish. so i basically just chopped and changed to pick the bits i liked the best. also has the forward volume control from johns earlier warwick buzzards and then the modulus and status ones later on, as well as john's trademark "1 gold tuner". sounds and plays great too, Fender tapewound strings are holding up pretty well so far. like i said hope you guys like it.

This is the one of the 3 original prototypes for the warwick buzzard:

( sorry about the big images )

Starting the shrink down process on my 3 band onboard preamp design. I started by just replacing all the through-hole resistors and the ICs with surface mount ones. That cut board size in half:

I have a lot of work to do on my SMT soldering technique, no closeups this time!

My three latest DIY onboard preamp builds:

The one in the middle is my latest design, a three band format with a "filter" style treble control section. I expect to post it eventually as an open source project including circuit board fabrication files. Initial testing has been going pretty well, much better than I really expected to be honest. Here are the two stomp box enclosures I just received in the mail today for some tester versions I can pass around to friends for user feedback:

I'll also have them in some friends' booths at the NAMM show in January, but again just to see how I might be able to improve the design. I would love to eventually sell some IP, but have little interest in marketing hard goods.

I have now followed through on this: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/the-passinwind-open-source-preamp.1259692/. The final spec won't be released for another week or two, just want to gather up NAMM feedback before I do that.

Here are the stomp box versions that I just sent off:

And at least one will be in a friend's bass at the show as well.

Looking damn good Charlie

PS how do these differ from say, our Alan at ACG's own filter pre ?
[/quote]

Thank you. His is for sale and mine is for DIY'ers. John East designs and builds his and some geezer hippie tech-not-engineer does mine.

Please take a read through the TB thread I linked for details on my design. My "filter" section is focused just on being a treble control, for starters. I have zero experience with Alan's preamps beyond having read a bit on his website, but I am hoping to at least have a quick listen at NAMM. I built a few outboard preamps based on Craig Anderton's Superfilter when his book first came out, and had always meant to revisit the general concept. Even before that, I was a big fan of Jack Casady, Phil Lesh, and Stanley Clarke, and I still feel that there are many untapped possibilities out there. I have the greatest respect for ACG/East, Wal, and Alembic for all that they've done with resonant filter technology, and I've tried to just do my own thing and not to compete with their excellent implementations.

Edit: I actually met Alan at NAMM and had a brief chat. I now have even more respect after seeing his work up close, and really wish I could have heard how his preamps work so I could get a better feel for how far I have to go.to get anywhere near one of the gold standards for this general type of preamp.
