New Yorks best. Although he's not a native, Guru was a Hip Hop genius. Not many know he was a bad ass bass player and drummer. He used to play bass for a gospel band in Boston. DJ Premier is another HH genius. Absolute killer record with Guru's laid back delivery.
I quite like hip hop but I feel the general quality of it has taken a nosedive since the days of Dr Dre and maybe Kanye.
How dare you speak that name in this parish.!! Only kidding Harry. Dre is great, Kanye i do not like whatsoever. Anyone who says there a musical god, i just think of Stevie Wonder and Prince and i then think he's a very insignificant person with a narcissistic personality. There is so much more out there. Its like me loving Jazz Funk and thinking Jamiroquai is the only thing I've got.

When i was very young i loved hip hop. still do. its part of myself. i recognised that most of it didn't have the musical arrangements of the other soul music i was listening to. like comparing Stevie Wonder to Public Enemy. but i still had a thing for Hip Hop. and i don't know why

although this is subjective, like anything creative, i was drawn to a certain type of HipHop. the funky kind. Usually it was west coast, with early NWA, but then with New York GangStarr, who to this day for me are the finest hiphop act to ever record this genre. but then i hear the X Clan. Mos Def, Jurassic 5, The Herbaliser just great smoker's hip hop..The Pharcyde The Roots are just epic.

anyway, when the chips are down, and i want to listen to some proper stuff. this is the sh*t. imo. DO YOU LOVE HIP HOP.? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGpvI9vN9qU

I love hip hop this is a song I played bass on with an up and coming rapper from Yonkers NY called Kev Adventures

I wrote the music with an old friend of mine and we also financed the video. The guy who shot it is Troy Johnson brother of one of the Sunz of man.

I mixed and mastered the tune as well, although it was done on some entry level m-audio monitors at the time.

I love it. Especially old skool grimy NYC stuffs
I'm three tracks into making an album with a local rapper, a local producer (who also happens to be a band mate) and a non local producer who I would LOVE to namedrop but....... Should be out late next year.

I'm majorly into the golden age of hip hop from the late 80s to mid 90s and the instrumental hip hop /turntablism of acts like DJ Shadow and lots of stuff that came out on Ninja Tune e.g. Herbaliser, Blockhead. No too fussed on chart stuff of the last decade or so. The lyrics are'nt generally much cop and there isn't the imagination that you'd find on a Bomb Squad track

Yes!
Between the ages of 10-16 I listened pretty much exclusively to hip hop, then I started getting into turntablism, after that sampling which led to the discovery of soul, jazz, funk and other great stuff. When I bought my first bass at the age of 19 my main objective was to use it for beat making.

I listened to Westwood in the old days. Always seemed like an odd accent to me but I enjoyed the music.

Attended several concerts including this one; http://www.mikeallencapitalradio.com/home/ukfresh87-88/uk-fresh-86

I still listen to hip hop nowadays but I'm told I'm getting too old to listen to it nowadays! ;-)
