Hey gang

I've been doing a lot of palm muting recently - it really suits some of the styles I'm playing. Playing with my thumb gets a bit tedious after a while though, so I've been experimenting with different sponges etc. Unfortunately, none of them have worked out, 'cos getting them in and out between songs is a bit hit and miss and they never quite feel right.

So then, I thought about the Bassmute. But that's expensive, potentially marks the bass, and even if I could afford one it seems he's gone out of business anyway.

So step forward Amy at Patton Mute Pad. She makes cool little mutes in a variety of different fabrics, customised to fit your particular bass. It have a string attachment so you can install it in seconds between songs, it does the job perfectly. Slide it to and fro for different degrees of mute.

What's more, it cost me around $20 including postage. Yes, it's more expensive than a chunk of sponge, but it's far more elegant than that.

She's a delight to deal with, and it even comes in fab packaging. Marvellous. 100% recommended.

Another user here, they're great!
Standard sized one on my Starfire & a custom made one on the Precision, which tucks in nicely underneath the bridge cover. :)
