What a bass!

The satin finish is great, the neck is really nice but I will lightly sand the back of it just to make it even better, it sounds really good too. Still getting my head around the pickup selection and what they actually do, but my favourite position is the lowest on the knob it goes which I think is both humbuckers on. Sounds like a jazz with a few roids pumped into it!

It goes very nicely with my sunburst Fender Highway One :

Did a little mod to this last night, I was surprised that you couldn't select to have that classic jazz sound, the single coil selection was the two outer coils which wasn't the classic jazz sound as the coils are in different positions to a normal jazz and was my least favourite position.

All I did was turn the pickups around so now when I select the outer coils they are now the inner coils, I measured and the space was 7.5cm between the pickups on my VM Squier. With the pickups turned round the right coils are now 7.5cm apart and give that classic jazz bass sound I was looking for!

How does the bridge compare to the Badass out of interest?

To be honest it seems exactly the same, I haven't had to adjust it so haven't seen if the saddles bottom out like I've heard the badass can do

I had a quick go on one of these in a shop today. I also played a USA Standard Precision as a comparison, as well as Classic Vibe and Affinity Squier basses.

In my humble opinion, the Modern Player feels excellent, and to me felt as good quality a bass as the USA Precision. It was a slight applles and oranges comparison with the Modern Player being a Jazz with a maple fingerboard, and the USA being a Precision with a Rosewood board. But in terms of quality, I think they were much of a muchness.

The neck and fretwork felt very nice to me. I thought the satin black finish both looked and felt really nice. The two Squiers both felt nice, but the two Fenders really were a cut above. Though, it's possible that a proportion of the improvement is due to better strings.

I tried these instruments at Sheehans in Leicester, who set up all their instruments before putting them out for sale. So, it is possible also that the setup had an equalising effect between the MIUSA and MIC Fenders.

As far as I'm concerned, this certainly answers the question as to whether there are very high quality basses being made in China.
