Go to your notification setting page (little icon next to your user name at the top of the page). Click on Options. Uncheck the boxes that are checked and click on Save. It's really annoying, as you can't have a proper back and forth conversation by PM as you have to wait at least five minutes between PMs. And if you're trying to contact a number of people simultaneously it's a very tedious affair indeed!
