It's the same family actually.

Yes, I remember the ice-cream van from the Hounslow (pronounced 'Arnslow'...) branch of the family chiming through my early adolescence. Quite tasty stuff, too.

I've been using an akai unibass for a while in our band to support the guitarist during solos
This pedal is able to add the upper fifth as well

It's then fed off to a line 6 amp where I add distortion, flanger, chorus or whatever

I also have the wah wah pedal to play living on a prayer, meaning I can play the bass and guitar parts,

However having seen the tracking on the pog I think I might be changing for one of them, the unibass is good but you can upset it with too many notes

I assume a pog and a boss ps6 will give me the same thing' but more polyphonic

A mate was raving about these so I gave them a listen. After listening to a couple of tracks I've reached the conclusion that although immensely innovative it's not my thing. Kind of like "The Edge" but with 4 strings. Strip away the gadgets and effects and what's left behind isn't so overwhelming.

I always thought music was never bad as long as someone liked it. I mean music is all down to taste. Lots of people like Lou Reed, but I think he's sh*t. That doesn't mean he is sh*t, just that I don't like his material. Likewise, royal blood. Not everyone likes them. I do

I've got tickets to see them next March in Brussels. It'll be a bit of a Roadtrip with the drummer from my band, we first met when working over there way back in the dim and distant 90s. Drive there, drink beer, watch band, stay over, drive back again the next day. What can go wrong?

Ooooh not jealous at all  I can see that RB are not to everyone's taste, but then music wouldn't be music if everyone liked it or everyone hated it. Horses for courses I say. Must say, I'm enjoying the EP and the album. Also thought their 'Introducing..' slot from Maida Vale was pretty cool.

Good to hear people are trying out Royal Blood at gigs. We also play 'Little Monster' in Drop D (as I believe many of us are!)

Had a night off and what was going to be a rejig of the pedalboard just became a jam session of various riffs, so I put together a few into the video below. It's a good laugh and definitely worth a go if you're in a small band/one guitarist band to really beef up the mix!

That's excellent work! Nice one.
Did you programme the drum tracks yourself, or were they availabe wholesale somewhere?

I know I'm posting late, but my favorite power duo right now is Graveltones:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MGXu0Fm1GA

they have a huge sound, they have an amazing stage show, and they are a bit more dynamic I find than Royal Blood. RB's sound is insanely impressive though, and admittedly the Graveltones and a another good duo, Black Pistol Fire, sound thin to me after listening. Graveltones just write awesome songs, which trumps everything for me. I think they rely more on the composition of songs, knowing when to play and when not to play, and that makes them really pop for me.

I'm in a rock duo myself and a worry I have, something that I think RB and pretty much all duos that actually perform (aka Black keys) suffer from: the tone gets repetitive. I'd argue it's sort of necessary because trying to switch between tones (different overdrives, adding effects) without multiple rigs to try to sound more dynamic from one song to the next is a super hassle. I can't imagine how long it took the guy from RB to figure out his rig to get that one sound he's made (admittedly i've haven't listened to all their songs though).

Anyways I'm still learning to do it. And I'm not sure if I'm a good enough player/tech to ever do it. I definitely have way too many pedals at the moment (12 and counting...).

My band recorded a maxi-single this last december and used a variety of amp/splitter/stereo combinations to do these live recordings. Let us know what you think:

Just been listening to them, to me they sound like a band missing a bass player.

What's the best pedal/s to get to try and mimic the Royal Blood sound?

My band is about to start covering this and I need to get as close to it as I can.

Fantastic video pitchard! What pedals are in your rig?

A combination of POG2s, Boss TU2/LS2/PS6,ODB3, Sansamp Bass Driver and ZVex Fat Fuzz Factory and then signals split to different channels. Splitting to the different channels make all the difference.
