Maybe the assistant MD read this interview with Boz Burrell, Bad Company's bass player.

BB: [pauses] No. Not really. No. I’m not a retrospective sort of person. I don’t really go back and delve. I sometimes hear something, like “Can’t Get Enough” and think, “Jesus. I should never have played a fretless bass on that. The pitch is so out of tune.” So I can only look at something as a piece of work, if you know what I mean. Not as something I did or didn’t enjoy. I just listen to it and go, “Ooh, sh*t.”

BM: That fretless bass. Yeah. I remember seeing pictures of you in Circus Magazine back then playing that fretless bass. That looked really difficult. Did you think so, or was it easy to play?

BB: Oh, well, that’s a story, that is. That comes down to that was Esther Philips’ bass player. A New York guy. What was his name? It’s gone out of my head. Hmm. Gordon Edwards! The bass player. Used to have this lovely style which I used to try and emulate it. It always sounded like a fretless bass, so I went and bought myself a fretless. It wasn’t until about four years later that I met him and he said, “No, I never played a fretless in my life.” [laughs]

BB: [laughs] I thought, “sh*t!” He never played one! It was just the way he played a fretted one. [laughs]
