Hi Folks

Anyone got a transcription for Stormin Norman's 16th fest?

Alternatively I'm sure it has been covered in one of the bass mags over the years and I still got most of them - anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers

John

The full notated transcription with tab was in Bassist issue 11 1995.

I have a copy if you can't find it.

I used to play it on my Wal 6 string with a band around 96/97

If someone wouldn't mind scanning the transcription and emailing it to me, I'd really appreciate it. I'm not a tab person either.

I've got a copy (notation) and a scanner that works :)

If it's possible to send jpegs via PM and you want a copy, PM me.

Steve

EDIT: Can't figure out how to send attachments in PMs, any help appreciated.

There's an Insert Image icon, but it links to a web address. I can't see how it can be done either.

Its not that I don't think information share is a great thing cos I do.
but as an aside, transcribing or learning, by ear, basslines of any sort is some of the best practice you can do to improve:
a )your playing and
b ) your overall musicianship.
As I said I'm trying not to pontificate as I love the fact that everone here is so willing to share :)

I totally agree mate. As a self taught player who had to work everything out by ear I've relied on said ears for years - and worked out a fairly close approximation of Rhythm Stick in the process. (However in recent years I've started to look into the black arts of theory and reading). I think there is far too much reliance on tab these days at the expense of ear training - but I'm starting to lapse into grumpy old man mode - so I'll get me coat.

[quote name='SteveK' post='225543' date='Jun 24 2008, 12:25 AM']Indeed...and likewise, figuring out the dots in front of you is a great way of honing your reading skills.

OT.
Back in the 70's this book was recommended by my Bass Teacher [A BBC Sessionist/Jazzer called Joe Muddel ]
Modern Reading text in 4/4 by Loius Belson.
This is just Fantastic for Getting your reading chops together.
Lots of good syncopated stuff.

As for the above Bass line...
You might surprise yourself by learning with your ears.
It aint that hard... :)
Playing it as a consistent performance...Ah....thats another matter...
For me anyway.

Very good book...in spite of the occasional 5/4 error/typo - bit like a dictionary showing the wrong spelling :)
