There were three that tingled my pants:

Discreet, this is the second month in a row that you've produced a stonking, high quality electrotune. You obviously have a talent for this type of music.

Lowdown, who doesn't love being spanked by 12" of quality camp funky disco? Marvellous stuff.

JamesFlashG, I liked this a lot, especially the Squarepusher flavoured bass playing, and especially especially the stripped-down outro.

In the end, Lowdown clinched it for me

:hi:
... congrats to all for their entries in the comp - and I've just voted! Before I voted, it was 'JamesFlashG' (1) and SimonEdward (1), but now he seems to have overtaken me! (thanks to the very kind soul who gave my tune their vote - much appreciated). :D

Voted, after a very pleasant hour or so listening through them all. I like to leave the audition until voting time, as I feel it more fair to hear them all in the same sitting.
No disappointments; all are up to scratch, although one's personal likes in music obviously colours the listening somewhat. No trouble listening through to the end, even for the one or two using a style which I wouldn't normally give much time to.
...and the winner is...
Many different 'colours' this month (as usual..?), with a certain 'disco' type theme cropping up. Not my speciality, really; I finally went for JamesFlashG, for the fine syncopation and the refreshing ending, bringing us back from the jungle tropics and trip beats.
Too many others worthy of mention to mention, but special mention for Milty, which gave me particular problems. My fault, really. I transformed his composition back into a bar-code, and found myself with a very strange invoice from Marks and Spencer's for flowers..!
Never mind...
Well done to all who took the trouble to composes these works, and well done to all who take the time to listen and vote.

Lots of good entries I agree :-) Anyone else having trouble loading Lowdown http://soundcloud.co...b/club-retro-75 ? I can get to the page but nothing plays :( I'll try again later as well.
after been fooled by the naked pics...
Not the first; surely not the last..!
...what really is the voting criteria...
Quite liberal, really, although it's the composing part which is supposed to be the real 'nut' of the challenge. We all have very different gear for doing this stuff, so the 'technical' aspect would be easily swamped by the 'big guns'. A decent bass line is likely, I suppose, to grab the enthusiasm of bassists (what would I know; I'm a drummer..!), but a good compo with little or no bass would, in my view at least, trump a brilliant bass line in a weak compo.
As a confirmed anarchist, it would be against my morals to impose rules, however. Vote for whatever you think most worthy..?
Hope this helps...

I thought the idea was to vote for the composition which representrd the photo that inspired it. If it is just a what is the one you like the most thing, why bother with the picture?
Absolutely, humble apologies for not mentioning that most important of criteria. Well done for correcting. Mea culpa...

Hey Simon, just been looking at your web pages and noticed the 'Carlsbro Cobra 90'
Me and my brother used one as a shared second amp for years.
It had fallen off the back of trucks, soaked in beer in dodgy pubs, been thrown off airplanes,
nicked and recovered by the Police, seen action in Abbey Road studios, borrowed by several other Bass players
It had a life of it's own - And it was second hand when we got it, also with some previous history....It had never let anyone down. :D
Apparently it was twenty years old when it died.

Voted :)

Mark (discreet) got my support this time round. A superb track that that really nailed the 'city nightlife' vibe for me. As did Garry's - another cracking entry! - but I'm more of a raver than a disco diva at heart; hence Mark's chimed a little more closely with my own experiences of city life.

Very well done to everyone. I'll post up a mini-review of each track next chance I get...

Paul
