If a textured pain finish is good enough for Martin, Court, Nexo and Turbosound, to name just a few, then I'm quite happy to belong to this elite with my 69er.

Using that logic, I'm quite happy with my car's paintwork being in the same elite as Ferrari...

I love everything abut my Compacts. Having said that, I've got the silver cloth versions - I don't like the look of the metal grille ones quite so much.

Must admit, I prefer the Fenderesque looking ones to the grills... but conversely, I love the look of that Berg with the metal grill pasted a while back.

Cars used to be painted with nitrocellulose. Situation would be comparable if most cars still were.

Missing your point?

PS I'm comparing my 2012 car with a 2012 Ferrari... or were you suggesting I was driving around in something shot with nitro?

No, they've moved on to poly, but people still demand the inferior old way of doing it. Kind of like wanting tolex or carpet instead of hard coatings.

I've never seen a bass with carpet on?

I'm afraid Axminster is in receivership. Will tufted Wilton do.

True. But ideally, I'm looking for a vintage Axminster P bass. With matching strap.

Is tolex/carpet inferior to the textured paint?!

Doubtful. Tolex might be a little delicate, but it looks fantastic. Carpet is the strongest.

Its superior to paint. But the cab covering stuff is beyond paint. Tolex is not easy to maintain or repair, strip it off and start again is the only way, once you get beyond superficial digs and rips, that can't happen on hard coating. Carpet is all round terrible, too uneven a surface to show damage is its main upside.
