funny enough it all just fits in fine all round the edges, the room is only 9'x12' with the corner cut for a door
( to the left of the Td12 kit) and yet still have space for a 6' x 4' rug in the middle with out touching anything.
i did try to get it all length ways but no, this is the only way it will all fit and still have space to get
behind the rack to fiddle, in fact the reel to reel does not even have to be there it could go under a desk
as all functions are on a remote.its just easyer to change the reels ;) .

Not a brilliant shot, but just put this all together:

It's currently multitasking as a Home Studio/Media Server/Normal Desktop.

2012 Mac Mini 2.3gHz Quad core i7, 4GB RAM (16GB arriving tomorrow), 1TB HDD, Mavericks, Logic Pro 9
Connected to:
27" Thunderbolt Display
Dell 22" Monitor on HDMI Output of Mac Mini for Dual Screen
Glyph GT050Q 1TB HDD
Harmon Kardon Soundstick Speakers

Audio Interface:

Apogee Duet 2
PJB Bass Buddy Preamp/Headphone amp/DI
Sennheiser HD280 Pro Headphones

I run my whole audio from Movies to Music to Games, all through the Apogee. I plug my bass into the PJB which is DI'd straight to the Apogee's first input. I split the headphone output of the Apogee and send one signal to the speakers, and one to the Aux In on the PJB. The headphones then plug into the PJB.

This means I can listen to the track/click/movie via headphones or speakers. Then I just mute the bass channel in Logic while recording so I don't get the doubling up of the PJB signal and the signal being sent by the Apogee into the Aux in, and I'm good to go! If I just want to use headphones I unplug the splitter from the Apogee and just go straight in.

Also pictured is a 2012 Macbook Pro (Non Retina) (8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, OSX Lion with Logic Pro 9) and a 32GB iPad Air.

The Keyboard is an M-Audio 88 Key. I'm actually looking to move this on (or at least trade down to a smaller keyboard) as I really am not much of a keys player, and with space at a premium in my house I think it best I downsize to a smaller Keyboard. So if anyone is interested or has anything to trade, please message me!

Yep, but (again) there's a degree of negotiation going on here ;¬)
Also I find that I kick away from the desk and slouch a bit when I'm properly listening back - which brings it much more in line. The THR10 on the right works as a nice "grot-box" and actually I do a lot of my mix monitoring through that in mono.

I really like those rack boxes , I have a couple myself but only worthy of garage space :rolleyes: , but they do give me an idea.
SWMBO hates the seeing the recording kit sitting on the desk/piano or anywhere really , but she does like the look of Orange kit (looks cool :o ) so , if I were to knock up some boxes like that and put a mock speaker grill type effect on the front , we would have plenty of rack mounted kit/storage that was 'hidden' and looked the part when not in use , Hmmm

first problem ....orange tolex :lol:

Found it hard to get hold of decent Orange tolex, the stuff on these is OK but not very heavy duty, but that's fine as they aren't really going anywhere. Just wanted to tidy things up studio wise, if I were you I would look for black tolex as its easy available and you can get decent quality quite easily. If they are just for studio like mine and not really being manhandled I could send you the link to where my mate got this from, I don't think it was too expensive to buy. He would knock you some up if you told him what you wanted, he's in Wigan so Chester isn't too far, he makes to your spec. Let me know if your interested?

Its the 'Orange' that SWMBO thinks is cool , and with a fake speaker front to hide the rack gear , I think it might be OK aswell , a little research suggests that getting hold of the 'Orange' badges for authenticity might be a bit awkward :( , but a link to the tolex would be good thanks . If I find in six months time I haven't got around to pulling my finger out I might take him up on the idea :rolleyes:

seems i didn't spot this thread and made another. thanks for the heads up Mornats. anyways here is my space. lighting is really important to me when playing /recording. i have lighting under the table. something to do with mood i guess. i have a friend who records under a single bulb in the ceiling. can't do the recording in a crack den thing. got to be a comfortable warm space.

[/quote] maybe its just me. i really don't like stark lighting. makes me feel like I'm in a bus shelter. put it this way i wouldn't want to fall asleep under a single bulb in the ceiling.

i think ambience is really important when making music. an aspect maybe, that a lot of people don't recognise. each to there own though. :)

Some very nice home studios in this thread! Here's mine...



...well, this is where it's [i]going[/i] to be. We're curently moving house and while I'm going to miss the hubub of central Manchester, one perk of suburbia is a little more space to sprawl, which in our case includes this integral garage that I'm planning on converting into a 'music room'. The deal is that Mrs Skol has the rest of the house and this is mine. Seems fair.

It won't be for a good while yet - we need to actually move in first (currently packing), let the dust settle and importantly, give time for my wallet to recover. I'm planning on hiring a specialist company for the job - brick up the doorway with an acoustic-treated window, fit the usual damp-proofing and an insulating layer of rockwool (for soundproofing) and then add acoustic treatment. Excitingly, a friend of ours is donating an upright piano! I can't play whatsoever, but as serendipity would have it our new neighbour is a retired music teacher who enjoys tinkling the ivories, so I'm planning on some lessons. Should be fun :)

[font=Helvetica][size=3][size=4]The walls are acoustic plasterboard (slightly thicker and more dense than the standard stuff), but that’s as far as I went in terms of ‘soundproofing’. In fact, I gave up on the idea of soundproofing very early on in the project! From reading [url="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Home-Recording-Studio-Build-Like/dp/143545717X"]Rob Gervais’ excellent book on the subject[/url], I soon realised that it was going to be 1) expensive and 2) a huge faff to create a suspended ‘room within a room’, so I focussed on treating and taming the acoustics, rather than trying to contain them.[/size][/size][/font]

[font=Helvetica][size=3][size=4]Hence the acoustic panels on the walls and ceiling. All of them bass traps, supplied by the very friendly and knowledgable people at [url="http://www.bluefrogaudio.co.uk"]Blue Frog Audio[/url] who went to great lengths to customise everything for the room - working out the problem frequencies and creating a natty 3D model in Google Sketchup, which was super-useful in planning the layout down to the last centimetre (and all at a surprisingly good price too - I really can’t recommend them enough).[/size][/size][/font]
