I'm going for this set on my Pawn Shop Bass VI but LaBella also make custom sets for the Bass VI.

Interesting range of prices there from $39 to $65!!!!!!!

I know CC Music in Glasgow can get LaBella strings, but they *are* pricey.

If I were you, I'd hold on a few days as I found a link that has me pursuing a UK source of both rounds & flats. I'll know more middle of next week.

Try putting yon silicon tape that plumbers use round the base. Do you need it anyway?

After taking advice from a friend who has a VM Jazzmaster, it turned out that the trem needs a pretty hefty push before it clicks into place. Once I had done that, the trem arm remains nicely in the chosen position.

I will probably be using it to play 60's style surf/instro stuff so yes, I intend to use it regularly enough - along with a huge dollop of reverb :)

It's a sad fact that lots of forums have declined dramatically since most of them set up a facebook page. A real shame as Facebook is murder to search for answers to specific questions.. Lots of good info on that site though - even if it is 'old'

Ok, thinking I might not keep my Squier VI.
Its brand spanking and I have barely touched it as im having trouble with a trapped nerve in my neck.
Its three colour burst and I have had it three weeks, so not a mark on it.
PM if interested.

ITS HERE!!!
I bought the squier bass vi (in black) yesterday. It arrived whilst I was at work, cue an early exit... Very happy with it so far.
It plays more like a guitar than a standard bass- closer string spacing & 30" scale, playing slap could take practice, but as it's not a major component of my style I'm not worried. Thus far playing with a pick seems easiest.
The range of tones seems good, maybe not as thick as my p-bass but useable none the less.
The setup seems good too. £275 well spent!

I bought a black one.

It had a very poor and buzzing set up with terrible strings and very slightly misaligned bridge all of which I felt I could fix.

Anyway, I replaced the strings with a set of La Bella flats, turned the bridge to face in the opposite direction (a standard Fender Jaguar trick) and got it working reasonably with no buzzing.

I'll sort the truss rod and neck at the weekend.

Also ordered a Staytrem Bass VI bridge, to replace the smaller Jaguar sized bridge that is factory fitted, and a black pearl pickguard.

And I might just do the headstock in matching black.

Wichita Lineman is a great song.

Mine finally turned up on Thursday, and I finally re-strung it baritone A-A today and have had a whole load of fun with it. The nut looked a mess, and I've had to do lots of tweaks to suppress buzzes and rattles, and the overall finish had lots of flaws ... but, hey, it was cheap and it's fun. I'm happy! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just curious.. I only just noticed that the neck pickup on mine is tilted towards the nut. I'm not sure whether it's supposed to do this, or if it needs adjusting, so can anyone tell me if theirs is the same? It certainly gives a decent enough tone, so possibly only a cosmetic adjustment?

Ok I got one of these today courtesy of ash (thanks very much and a very nice bloke to deal with :)) but tell me what does the Bass-Cut "Strangle" Circuit do - it seems to make it more like a baritone in tone but boy does the volume drop when using this
[/quote]
I'm finding it useful when I want to strum some big chords - hitting the bass-cut switch stops it getting too muddy. But then I flick it back for single-note runs on the bass strings.

Admittedly, at first it did seem like a setting I would never want to use ... :)

when you do this do you find that there is a difference in volume levels between the two settings?

Hello people, where are you getting strings for your VI from?

Sorry if this is a repeated question.

The strangle circuit is a high pass filter and so you can expect some loss of overall volume associated with some loss of bottom end.

That was definitely one reason for the 'strangle'.

The other reason was to get the tic-tac sound for doubling the upright bass.

yes really interesting thanks - I am loath to change the bass from original - overall its a great bass and there must be some reason why squire/fender designed it this way, so I am gonna get used to it and us it as it is - thanks again
