It's true. So are BFM cabs. Is that MC Escher's eye in your avatar..? It reminds us of our mortality... :)

....what rigs any of you out there use when gigging pubs or small venues without pa support....
I use the same rig whether I have FOH or not.

Thunderfunk or Tonehammer into Bergantino AE112 cabs.

I wouldn't change things around because I want "my space" on stage to sound the same whatever the gig.

We will do small marquees with backline only but will introduce a sub for kick and keys.
My TF550-B and 2x112 will do that.
If I have more stage, I'll bring along the DB750 and DB210's as it is my preferred rig but I wouldn't put it in many pubs...not that we do many.

We will spec up P.A hire for gigs over a certain size....ie, 200 plus people.

Sub for keys..? Does this not encroach on your bass territory, frequency-wise?

It might do if we hadn't worked on what parts he should and shouldn't play in what register.
It pisses me off if he loses that 'discipline'

The sub comes into it when we decide to run the kick and kit thru the P.A and then the sub helps out there with the keys as well..
We will always have a bleed there for keys anyway even using just tops..
He is a genuine piano player as opposed to one handed keyb guy ... which is great... but the trade-off is he has a great left hand.

Yep...can be tricky if the brain on these guys goes awol.

TC Classic 450 plus Barefaced Compact/Midget does the job for me set well below halfway. Loud heavy rock band with volume level set by drummer when not going through the pa.

RH450 and double compact here.

With The Tuesday Club, Markbass CMD121P combo, on the floor/stage.

With The Daves, Markbass CMD121P combo plus Markbass NY121 cab. Combo on cab, which is on the floor.

Plenty of volume in both cases. The Tuesday Club have 2 basses, hence me only using the combo, don`t want too much going on, especially seeing as we also have 2/3 guitars & keys as well.

Hartke LH500 into three Aguilar GS112 cabs, small footprint, tall so you can hear it standing next to it and plenty loud enough, also pretty easy to fit in the car and carry into venues.
Usually I don't have PA support and it's a soul/ funk type function band.

Yes it is, most people miss the skull...

Never heard a BFM cab up close, but I hear very good reports....

TC RH450 and 2x10. This rig sits on an RS112.

Works a treat! For smaller 'doo's' the RS112 just lifts the combo off the ground a bit. For larger gigs, the RS112 is plugged in.

Rarely go beyond 12 o'clock on the master. Regularly complemented on the tone and presence.

thank you please

RK

They're 8 Ohm cabs, are they not? How d'ya hook 'em up without going below 4 Ohm load - or does the LH500 not mind ?

A Hartke 3500 and 2x4x12 cabs,seems to work for me,its not the volume,a spread of tone,hehe :)
Wouldn't you get a better spread of tone from the single 2x12 stood vertically?
I would have thought that a 4x12 would give a tunnel of tone.

Though if the 2 4x12s do it for you, then that's the important bit. :)
