Not to be confused with the Japanese reissues, which as you'll know doubt be aware, are far removed from being accurate reissues of the originals, and certainly not to be confused with the recent Pawn Shop series, not quite sure what they are supposed to be. The following description is taken from a 60's Fender catalogue
“Built with both the guitarist and bassist in mind, the Fender Bass VI is tuned one octave below the standard guitar. Numerous tone combinations are made possible with three adjustable full-range pickups. The circuit incorporates three on-off switches, one for each pickup, plus a tone modification switch enabling the player to select the pickups individually or in any combination. In addition, a tone control permits further modifications of any selected position. Chord structures and fingering are identical to the guitar, thus, both guitarist and bassists will find the instrument easy to play and adapt to their present orchestrations and instrumentation.
(Note: Multiple different tuning options are possible with this, check out youtube, or just google bass vi tunings, for various interpretations, and options)
Among other outstanding features of this instrument are the ‘floating tremolo’ action …smooth and positive return to pitch and a ‘Trem-Lock’ permitting simultaneous string change. The Fender Mute and reinforced fast action neck with trim and inlaid position markers are additional features employed. Micro bridges are individually adjustable for perfect string length and a master bridge adjustable for height. Comfortable playing over long periods is achieved with the ‘off-set’ waist design”.
List price from the Custom Shop is $5700 USD. The only other one available in the UK, is over £3100 GBP. The Japanese ones are fetching around £1200 based on the last 2 I’ve seen sold recently.
Condition: Minter than a mint thing.
Trades may be of interest, but unlikely, but just ask, I can only say No! May consider an all-original pre-EB ‘Ray, any old Fenders always interest me too, so just ask, or PM. I’m happy to trade upwards if necessary, so if you have a nice 1960 Jazz, let me know!! ;)
Any trial welcome.

Rick that's wonderful - have a bump - on the last cd I did with Bob Collum we had Martin Belmont (Graham Parker/Elvis Costello) guesting on his Fender 60's VI

Thanks Gareth, more pics just added, they're great basses actually, and look stunning, I just wish I was good enough to do it justice!! Don't fancy one then? Could think of a nice swapsy? ;)

Love it. Always had a very strong urge to own one of these... dont suppose youd have any interest in a form of trade for various other 6 string basses??

Thanks for the comment, I'm afraid not, I'm quite a traditionalist when it comes to basses, and 4 strings are more than enough for anything I've ever done, or likely to do. Rick.

 • 2 weeks later...

If you will take an epiphone Zenith and a £100 monthly instalment plan then I'm your man wahahaha

My friend gave me a loan of one of these basses and I loved it.

Awkward to play finger style plus he had it tuned EASGBE for some silly reason lol

Cracking basses, awesome fun to play and look damn sexy.

All the very best mate with your sale as these are bloody awesome
