Crazy 8 cab * SOLD *
£450

Recommended Posts

Mike Arnopol is at the forefront of a new wave of cabs in the US voiced for double bass. I am selling one of his Crazy 8 cabs - a 1x8" micro cab that is perfect for quieter gigs, coffee shop gigs, band practices etc. Mine is tweeterless and has a retracting tilt leg option (although I just use it sat upright with my EA or Acoustic Image amp on top). Its still in excellent condition and I have bought a cajon padded gig bag, which fits the cab and leaves some room at one end for amp and cables, to sling it over my shoulder. Needless to say its an incredibly light cab (maybe 12-13 pounds, I've not weighed it though) so with a lightweight head (eg, my EA Micro plus cab) in the cajon bag it is a breeze to carry to gigs.

So why sell? Because I've just received Mike Arnopol's bigger Big E 4x5" cab (I need more volume in my band due to playing more at 'rock volumes' with drummer, guitar, mandolin and two vocals).

I paid just over £500 including import duty to get my Crazy 8 into the country and the cajon bag was another £50, so I have £550 in this. I would be looking for £450 due to its excellent condition and scarcity value, collected/meet-up in London. Post would be another £15-20 I guess.

Couple of pics of other people's Crazy 8's (mine is without tweeter, otherwise visually identical):

In case you want further reading, here's 8 pages of discussion on TalkBass: http://www.talkbass....-winner-848274/

Edit: prefer cash but would also consider p/x (with cash your way) for a two-channel Series 4 Acoustic Image Image Clarus+ head (my Ten2 combo only has the one-channel head)

Thanks! Incidentally the cajon bag is a quality padded bag by Meinl and was recommended on TalkBass as a suitable carrying vehicle for the Crazy 8. Its very cat-friendly as it has (fake) sheepskin inside - my cat has eyed it up on a number of occasions but I've always headed it off at the pass!

Only arrived this week (so I've not had chance to gig it yet). Very transparent and allows the DB to 'breathe'. Very like the Crazy 8 but louder and, at home, the vortex inward-facing speaker technology means it sounds way better if you stand further away (6 feet plus). You will be pleased

I've recently acquired a Crazy 8, and can happily enthuse about the sound quality. Its done a few small bass guitar gigs equally well - very impressive low end for such a tiny cab. Won't carry your sound into a big room or compete with any but the most careful drummers...but a very accurate version of your bass (pickup) sound. Mine hasn't got the tweeter either, and I haven't missed it.

I'm not listening to any talk of these vortex things....that belongs in Star Trek.

I am withdrawing this from sale as I attended a coffee shop gig last night and realised this cab is just perfect for that type of event

Also noone had shown any interest in buying my cab in any case!

Only home use so far Geoff (first real-world use next week). Sounds lovely, incredibly "true" for want of a better description, especially with Ehrlund pickup. In my sitting room, yuou have to stand to one side to get the best tone (due to complex-fangled vortex-y stuff going on!)

 • 1 month later...

Having determined (after an ill-thought-through dalliance with selling it) that my BigE 4x5 is going to be my go-to rig for gigging double bass, I am putting my Crazy 8 cab up FS again. Its a really lovely sounding cab with a teensy footprint that belies its sound capabilities but the truth is its unlikely to get used much given the BigE

Cash sale preferred but would consider a small DB-specific/oriented combo (GK, PJB) in px/trade for simple home practice

I will include postage in the price if in the UK or - if collected - knock £20 off. As above, would also entertain trades against small-footprint DB (and wife!) friendly combos primarily for home practice (PJB Flightcase, GK MB150S or 200MB, Markbass Minimark) with appropriate cash adjustment

It reads like a truly astonishing little cab! Have you tried it with fretless electric?...

Yep, sounds great. I think another BCer has one (BassBod or Bassbus?) and has gigged it with electric and was very happy with it. Its not earth-shattering lows and volumes but you have bigger cabs for that anyway - its for hi-fi quality sound reproduction on a micro/convenient scale

I'll do you a good deal, Chris, on an EA Micro plus the Crazy 8 and Meinl bag - the ultimate in easy, small footprint rigs for DB ;) :P

Mmmm, keep me posted Clarky
