Truckstop Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Hello all, Just curious really. Anyone tried dropping a Squier or MIM Fender J or P to BEAD? I like the idea of it and want to see if it's worth trying. TheEmperor Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 I'd think a Jazz or Precision, being longer scale, would be a much better bet than a 'Stang. Can't see why it wouldn't work, but you'd have to recut the nut to accomodate the heavier gauges. I suppose a cheap bass is a good starting point in that regard! I suddenly remembered that years and years ago I use a Stagg something-or-other and I tuned that to BADG and it handled the B admirably. The average low B string is usually much lower tension than a high G. If anything you might need to slacken the truss rod off slightly. Ed_S Posted April 9, 2013 Share Posted April 9, 2013 Yup! Squier Vintage Modified Precision to be exact, and it worked really well. Once I realised it was going to work for gigging I went a bit further and put Schaller locks, a BAII and a SD Quarter Pounder on it too, but the change of bridge was purely aesthetic and nothing to do with the stringing; the BBOT it came with was on it for a few months and worked absolutely fine. Mine's actually set up for use in C,F,Bb,Eb but worked fine in BEAD when I first modified it. And since pictures prove it happened...
