Finally got this one working again. Waiting for nice weather to oil the neck was biggest hold up:

Despite me no longer having my Aria's, I still think Matsumoku basses are brilliant. Therefore a bump for my original thread - would be interesting to see what instruments fellow BC'ers might have added to their collection since the last post two years ago!

Heres mine, an Aria ZZB Custom, a Westone Thunder 1A v3 and a much modified Westone Quantum. :D

This post alone was worth refreshing this thread! Nice collection.

Those 'law suit' Matsumoku basses seem to be highly regarded. I'm quite looking forward to giving one a spin!

This is a bit of a blatant plug really. I like this bass, had some fun with it, but it's time to move it on. In the meantime, feel free to enjoy taking a look

Ah Westones - they were lovely back in the day.

Over a few years from about 1986-1991 I had a white Spectrum ST bass, two natural Thunder 1A basses and borrowed my mate's black Spectrum DX as a spare for gigs.

The Spectrum ST was my first serious bass after I'd limped along for a year on an awful short scale plywood Satellite bass.

I got the Thunder 1As later as back ups as I'd tracked them doing cheaply secondhand. They were great but I remember both weighing a tonne.

WOHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've played many many P basses in my time, but this one is an absolute peach!!!!

This is a '76 Ash and Maple 'Law Suit' P. It sounds every bit as good as the best Fenders at a ridiculous snip of a price. I'm thinking about getting another already! - I've just been recording the bass with very little EQ and it just commands my mix! WOW! is all I can say!

Thank you guys! I am so so pleased with this bass!
I'm going to look for a black U.S. Plate with the slot for the truss rod adjustment on it.

Yup I think it'll look cool!! :)

You've had quite a result there. But where is the Bass Doc when we need him. He's another we sadly miss.

I mean, the bass has signs of wear. It's not A1 condition, but none of the dings etc are near the playing area so it still feels comfortable to play. Everything has a lovely 'worn in' feel.

So, if I went for a black guard, would black hardware be too much? Or keep it to nickel/non shiny chrome hardware?

Yes, we're losing too many good people!!

Just in case there's any misunderstanding. I'm sure you wouldn't want any "real" work done, but he could provide a nice pick guard.

Ok so I went with a new black guard. The Fender US type looks like a perfect fit and had a cutaway for the truss rod adjustment. Whilst I'm there, in going to replace the pots as I think they've seen better days.

This bass is gonna get lots of use. Have I been really lucky or are all Mat' basses stonkingly good? I mean - "really good, why would I spend more on a P bass" good!!
