I've had one or two comments about my Quantum lately, but they've always shut right up once I've actually started playing. End of day like others have said you're in this to please yourself! I was thinking the same but its a lot of money to regret because people think "thats a young guys bass and you look like a guy reliving his youth". I aint past 40 yet and my wee wife keeps sayin go for it. Feels too wrong to be right. Im for London this weekend to browse at bass gallery hopefully. Maybe do some damage to the credit rating when im there and pull the trigger on something. It is a beauty. GAS is a curse. Bein skint is like rubbing salt in the wound. Most of my friends who are in their 40s and 50s wouldn`t worry what anyone else thinks, whereas the ones in their 20s and 30s do seem to care about other peoples impressions. Maybe guilty of splittin hairs here. Im not that bothered about what people think too often. Maybe its because ive read it somewhere before that a tbird is a tool of youth. I know i should just please myself and that will likely be that. London this weekend with the wife for a break. Bass shops in ireland are awfully non existent so who knows wot will happen...... If I had a spare 3 grand lurking around , it would be on its way to me now. I believe the Lull T-birds are very light and well balanced , unlike the Gibbo counterparts . I don't really give a sh*t about what people think , I still go skateboarding at the local skate spots because I enjoy it and have done it since I was 12 years old . What annoys me most about being told what I can and can't do at my age is that most of the people who seem to have a negative view about it are younger in years, but appear to have hit middle age mentally sometime in their late 20s. Mostly I feel sorry for them, because it's obvious that they have run out of the ability to have fun. [/quote] BRX , I sincerely admire your attitude and your enthusism but we all have to bow down to Old Father Time . Feeling positive about getting older is a very healthy way of looking at things , but somewhere in that you have to acknowledge that you are indeed getting older and there will be changes that come along with that . The harsh reality can sometimes be that it's not how you yourself feel about things but more how other people see you , especially younger people . There is nothing more middle aged than trying to hold on to an era of your life that is gone forever . Why do we fetish and romanticise our younger years anyway ? Is life neccesarilly any less sweet when your forty than when your twenty ? I certainly don't think so . Failing to acknowledge the changes that come with ageing is not a remedy for ageing itself . I probably needed a break after 10yrs intense gigging etc. However returning to bass in my early 30s I realised I'd been silly. I turn 40 next month and feel / look / act younger than in my late 20s. We do what we do and the joy of getting older as personally speaking I couldn't care who is looking or laughing. I did have cause to note this week that most of my clothes I buy online seem to have the tag "fancy dress" or "gay interest" though. Worryingly that's just the stuff I wear out around Sainsburys! I can't help but notice though , that a great many of the more successful artists in the music industry do everything they can to maintain the fragile illusion that they are eternally in their mid to late twenties .
