My Warwick's got Wenge and that's not got any brash-looking grain to it, but yeah 'blingy' maple tops, whether it's quilted or flamed or 'spalted' (yuck) it just looks like a lottery winner's furniture. Nouveau riche. The Ric 4001/3 shape is pretty terrible too. When it's got all the hardware and the pickguard on they look nice, but when you see one that doesn't have all that you realise what a badly shaped lump of wood it is. [/quote] I remember making a thread called "who's the worst bassist" & put a list of some of my fave bassists & a couple of not so good bassists (like Sid Vicious) & most of the posts was about how offended they was. incidentally, I think Fenders have the potential to be very nice if it wasn't for that hideous cyst of a top horn!
