Next gig is at The Maze, Mansfield Rd, Nottingham on Saturday 26th Jan. 8pm £5 on the door

Here's what you'll experience:

JIMMY THE SQUIRREL
One of Nottingham’s finest dancing bands! Having been together for nearly a decade and in that time seen their sound evolve from Ska/Punk to Ska/Reggae, the Squirrel’s have been working hard over the last year to get a new album out in 2013 with once more a change in sound and maturity!

Having toured the UK and shared stages along the way with the likes of The Beat, The Selecter, The Slackers, Jaya the Cat, Chris Murray and many more and had members of Pama International and The Big work on their last album, which was released on cult Ska label, Do The Dog Records, JTS have big plans in 2013….and this is the start, with the release of their brand new single – See Me Smile.

Supports come from….

UJAHM
Recent additions to the Nottingham music scene, Ujahm play an upbeat mix of traditional reggae, 2 Tone Ska and punchy bass pop! The 4 piece have been playing in many bands in the city in the past and since forming last year have had crowds bouncing and high praise from all that have witnessed their shows! Certainly one to be watching out for this year!

TOO SPICY
Reggae, ska, dub and a bit of punk hailing from the north.
Born just over 2 years ago they came together mixing ska, reggae, punk and the occasional dub tune.
They’ve already had the great pleasure of playing alongside all time legends Toots and The Maytals, Fishbone, The Beat, The Selecter, Bad Manners and current heroes Gentleman’s Dub Club, Random Hand, New Town Kings, By The Rivers, Jeramiah Ferrari, Spunge…To name a few.

WILLIAM BAILEY
Local legend, William Bailey comes to get the night started off with his catchy, sing along punk, folk and ska songs. Known as the man behind comedy punks Arse Full Of Chips and Ska/Punk band Gone and Lost It as well as a former members of Nottingham Ska band Breadchasers, Will is a master song writer whose songs stick in your head long after the end of his set!

Just a quick update - a local radio station have a weekly roundup of live music, and an annual top ten live acts of the year. Ujahm got in there at number ten! Not exactly a Grammy, but nice to have some appreciation!

Big fan of ska and reggae here! I have relatives over Leicester way but rarely get over there. If you're ever playing in Manchester or thereabouts then give me a shout - I could happily add a dozen or so punters to your crowd.

PS: might be worth checking out this venue - Band On The Wall (you may have heard of it). It's got a great reputation for reggae and other good music, and a very good sound system. I go there whenever I get chance:

If you do manage to get up to Manchester, I'd come & see you!

Bumping this, seeing as people seem to be diarising Dublin Castle gigs ATM :-)

"Ujahm- low slung reggae with a Holly Cook like female lead singer, bit rootsier though but lyrically very much now- concerns with Red Stripe on her trainers, drinking Hennesey, alongside smoking up the sensi- and the tell tale lyric 'just like a vinyl spinning on a deck'- it's a record, A RECORD! Ha...anyway, this is good. Musically reminiscent of early Misty and Matumbi. Then they turn into a pop reggae ska band nearer to The Selector"

No worries Nigel and thanks for asking. It was pretty good thanks, considering we were on at 8.15 during the football! Not too many people watching, but those present were very appreciative with several up dancing.
The other bands were a real mixed bag, from LA GnR style rock, to poppy reggae. All nice people.

We have 2 x 45 minute sets of original material to look forward to tonight. Should be fun :-)
