As promised... this thread has been overdue a proper update with some proper pictures. Time to change that.

So... this is a Rumour that has been completed today - and it's a bit special. Thought I'd give you a sneak before it heads up to it's new owner in Liverpool.

Check out the bookmatched billets on the rear of that neck... outrageous woods and a cool burst on the body. A different lacquer has been used on this bass - it really reacts with the light and hence depending upon which angle you view the bass, you get an outrageous change in colour... pinks through to orange and reds to brown.

Cool vibe? What do you think?
That, is astounding.

Is it still love then Guns?

Anyway, the bass above... I actually think it looks great. It's all down to personal taste though. I have burl and quilted finishes. I still have a soft spot for walnut but for everybody that likes that sort of thing, there is one that will go for quilt... one that will go for bursts and one that will go solid colours. The owner of this bass got what he asked for I guess.

As it happens, I still think one of the best looking Rumours out there is an all black one which went out to Holland. It was proper magic.

Wait til you see my next one... it's going to be like nothing you have seen here before. Although it will be some time...

The delivery that I am most looking forward to seeing at the moment, is the GB guitar... (oh and I have to pick up my red one with the new bridge on it... I'm looking forward to that too!)

Absolutely Russ - had a rehearsal last night and did a tune with some slap bass in and I have to say that the GB "slap switch" is nothing short of fantastic!! When you then add the EBS multi-comp it is an unbelievable sound - definitely makes you play better!!!

Did have a problem with some fret buzz just before a live radio session so I was frantically playing with the action minutes before we went live!!! Spoke to Bernie and he advised that the truss rod needed adjusting slightly so I have done that and it cured the problem although the action is a little higher now then when I first had her. It is to be expected on a brand new guitar though - I will take her back down to Bernie's in a month or so that he can do the set up again.

I am intrigued about your new bass - go on give us some clues?

Mark

PS Keen to see the GB guitar too - what electrics will they have in them?

I thought that the wood on the back of mine was nice and then I saw yours!

BTW welcome to the club (both GB and Basschat!)

Yup - I spoke to Bernie recently about truss rod adjustment. I made a slight tweak to my Rumour as there was a little buzz. It's to be expected though - that bass has been half way around the world and some more so it's first tweak in 6 or 7 months isn't so bad... and I play with a ridiculously low action. Your bass was only built for a day before you picked up - it's going to take a while for it to settle. It's all normal.

The lower position with the switch is really lovely. I really like boosting the mids and playing some chordal stuff with it - especially with a little chorus. It's a got an almost acoustic quality about it.

I'm not sure about the electrics in it at the moment. I know Bernie and Dick were talking about maybe using the circuit but whether it will work for a guitar or not, I don't know. I do know that it's going to have the sound-to-light LED controller circuit in it though.

The new bass... well... it's not going to be a wood finish... (and no, it's not black)

Picked up Grace tonight with her new single coils and pre-amp with the "precision" switch instead of the slap switch (dont know where I got that idea from). Sounded great in the shop - cant wait until tonights gig to see what she will sound like.

And the "precision" switch will be great for playing the bass riff from The Chain at every opportunity :)
I know, I should have bought his Ric as well.

I am a dobber.

Lee's flogged his 4001CS? :) He loved that bass... or did he have another one? He did look a bit weird playing it though, Rickys look odd upside down...

Then again, he's got rid of some nice instruments... his lefty Sei and his Streamer Stage II were both lovely basses, and I was able to play them because he strings them righty.

All lefties?

Gigged with Grace on Saturday - what a difference. Last few gigs I have been horrendously loud just to hear what I was playing but Saturday was as clear as a bell. Not able to muck about much cos the club was full with the footy so we couldn't soundcheck; but the new preamp is interesting - but it does not make much difference with the EQ flat :) Tooke me a while to work that out - DOH.

Also Bernie had forgotten I tune down a tone so had to do a quick set-up.

Big big improvement but the few numbers I did on the fretless still blew it away, but that may have been volume related cos we didn't soundcheck.
