jdizzle Posted April 25, 2012 Share Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) Hello gents, I'm selling my Rick Turner as it simply doesn't get played enough to justify owning such a great instrument. It really does capture that warm, organic woody sound that a good upright provides. Although theres no substitute for the real thing. Anyone familiar with the Rob Allen basses should definitely check out this as having played a Mouse and Deep bass, the Turner comes very close. The condition is excellent and I'm the second owner. The original owner ordered it direct from Rick Turner in the States. The only cosmentic flaw is a small indent on the upper bout. I've included a picture below. There are some small blemishes on the underside near the jack but these really are negligible and impossible to photograph. Everything else is flawless including the fretboard. It seems that the Thomastik Acousticore strings designed for this bass aren't very abrasive. I've recently restrung this bass with a fresh set of Thomastik Jazz Flats and it's completely changed the tone of the bass; far more like an upright. The Acousticore strings are excellent too of course. This bass really responds to different strings types and benefits from experimentation. I've included the blurb and link to the spec from the Rick Turner website below. [/quote] The person I bought this from ordered it direct in 2003. I'd imagine it has the later D-Tar pick-up but I don't know enough about when Rick stopped using the Highlanders.
