Hank is the bass-half of infectious synth-pop duo Hank & Cupcakes. H&C create some of the funkiest, grooviest party tunes you'll ever hear and Hank's live and studio set up is something of awe!

Check out Hank's huge set up while he discusses how he does what he does and why it sounds so damn awesome!

cheers.

Thanks dude! Yeah. More of Germany is definitely on the cards for the future. The Aachen show was cool. The venue typically do rock stuff, but everyone seemed to dig what we do and we sold some merch etc. We are already talking about doing Europe again next year so watch this space :)

More pedal mayhem...

Shep on Bass - Interview: Benjamin Hinz/Dwarfcraft Devices

Ben (or Benjamin) also uses the name Aen amongst others. When asked which name should be used here he simply replied, "I am known by many names, and all of these are false!"

Ben is the man behind Dwarfcraft Devices, a company making a serious name in creating some of the noisiest and most 'off-the-wall' effects pedals in the world. Dwarfcraft's dirt and synthy/glitch devices have been finding homes on more and more artist's pedal boards than you can shake a stick at and once you hear some of the toys on offer it's easy to see why!

Ah yes! A great pedalbuilder! I certainly appreciated this one. :)
All these builders I want to work for..

I'm excited to present to you, Mr. Josh Newton, a bass heavy weight, having played for more bands on the US rock and metal scene than I can keep track of. While his bass career covers the far corners of the rock, metal and prog' genres, there is one characteristic always present in Josh's tone, one thing that makes you think 'that sounds like Newton!' - Dirt... A s**t load of dirt!

Josh is also a self-confessed gear nerd who loves to experiment with pedals and talk about gear. To date he is the only person I've interviewed that has insisted on me asking more questions. So, after some discussion & back-and-forth questioning, here is what Josh has to say about his gear, his tone and his love of effects.

Taylor Livingston is the man behind Iron Ether.

Iron Ether have made a real splash in the world of effects, creating gorgeous etched pedals that sound absolutely stunning. Taylor tackles the job of creating pedals by filling holes left by other pedal manufacturers and giving his pedals unique twists and features... Truly innovative signal processors!

My very first 'follow-up interview'...

Much has changed with Ant's set up since my interview with him all those months ago. His band, Castrovalva, are going from strength to strength and interest in his setup has become great. With all that gigging and all his gear getting put through it's paces night after night something was sure to change! Ant was cool enough to spend a few minute discussing those changes...

Steven Taylor (better known around these parts as Tayste_2000) of Our Innocence Lost is a fellow online forum user, blogger and a great musician. I was keen to interview Ste about his love of pedals and to quiz him on why he now uses a much reduced set up with his band. During these conversations he flipped the whole thing on it'd head and threw a pile of questions at me. While you wait for my interview with Ste, check out what I had to say...

I present to you Daniel Steinhardt.

Dan is a tone-obsessed guitarist and the man behind TheGigRig, the company responsible for bringing you the worlds first and most powerful programmable effects switching system.

Check out what he had to say about his products, his music and of course, his tone...

Jonathan Hischke holds down the low end with acts such as Dot Hacker, EV Kain & Broken Bells as well as collaborating with huge artists such as Omar Rodriguez Lopez and Norah Jones!

Check out what the man that Juan Alderete sights as his "favourite modern bass player" had to say about his love of effects and approach to such a diverse range of music...

I wasn't sure what to expect before I read it, and now I'm not sure what I just read..
Very interesting guy. Glad to see someone actually mention the Space Station, considering how awesome it is.
